Private Detective: Babysitter Put Rum in Toddler’s Sippy Cup

A party in Garrard County for the UK-Notre Dame game ended with a woman facing charges in connection with a bizarre child abuse case.

The man who lives at the home in Lancaster where the situation allegedly unfolded Saturday night told LEX 18 that Angie Spoonamore was a friend of a friend who came over to watch the game and she brought her one-year-old nephew.

“She went into the kitchen and the baby was in there and he was crying and she was trying to give the baby alcohol,” said Brandon Saylor, a witness.

An arrest citation for Spoonamore alleges she tried to feed the toddler beer and rum from a sippy cup, then threw the boy to the floor. He was taken to a hospital with an injury to his lip.

In an interview with LEX 18 from behind bars in the Lincoln County Detention Center, Spoonamore said she does not remember what she did to the child.

“It’s really hard for me to believe that I tried to give that baby something to drink or hurt him,” Spoonamore said.

Spoonamore admits she was drunk and she doesn’t even remember being arrested. The homeowner said he recorded his conversation with her before police arrived.

Here’s an excerpt of the audio given to LEX 18:
Homeowner: “The baby’s gonna stay in the house.”
Spoonamore: “My niece is gonna..”
Homeowner: “It’s not your niece, it’s your nephew, first of all, and second of all, you’re drunk and belligerent and you’re obviously on something. You need to get your head together. I’m telling you now, dude, you’re going to jail.”
