Pedophile Tracking Michigan Man Found Guilty in Miami

A federal jury in Miami has found a Michigan man guilty on five counts of traveling from Florida to Haiti to engage in sexual activity with minors.

The jury also found Matthew Andrew Carter guilty of one count of attempting child sex tourism.

The jury deliberated for about 90 minutes Thursday before convicting Carter.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Carter was accused of sexually abusing children who lived at the residential center he operated in Haiti from 1995 through his 2011 arrest at Miami International Airport.

Former Morning Star Center residents testified during the three-week trial that Carter forced them to perform sexual acts on him when they were children.

Carter denied those allegations when he testified Tuesday. His attorney said in closing arguments Thursday that no physical evidence supported the allegations.

Missing Person KY Boys Found Alive in the Woods

Two young brothers from southwestern Kentucky were found alive Friday in the woods about a mile from their home, wet but otherwise unharmed about 17 hours after they were reported missing, law enforcement officials said.

Calloway County dispatcher Dan Galloway says a neighbor located 7-year-old Ben Davis and 5-year-old Cameron Davis about a mile from their home in New Concord, Ky.

“By the grace of God they were unhurt and OK,” Galloway said.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The boys were reported missing after their grandmother went outside about 4 p.m. CDT Thursday and couldn’t locate them. Law enforcement and volunteers fanned out across a mile-wide area Thursday evening but couldn’t locate the boys. The search resumed Friday morning as searchers began walking a one- to two-square-mile area around the house, which is in a heavily wooded area near Kentucky Lake and Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area, about six miles from the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. Searchers on foot and using ATVs combed the area.

“That’s the kind of search you fear is rough woods.”
— Bill Call, emergency management director

Emergency Management Director Bill Call says a deputy was with the two Friday morning and they were being brought home.

The weather overnight was about 47 degrees with light rain. Call said the boys were not dressed to stay warm.

“Both boys were a little wet and a little cold,” Galloway said. “They were damp.”

The terrain around the house worried investigators because of the density of the trees and the uneven nature of the ground.

“That’s the kind of search you fear is rough woods. It’s fairly rugged,” Call said.

Call said investigators chased down tips that the brothers wandered out to a main highway and were picked up, but none of those leads proved fruitful.

Pedophile Tracking Noble, OK Woman Facing 20 Charges

A Noble woman who faces 20 charges relating to child sex abuse was formally arraigned Thursday in Cleveland County District Court.

Michelle Danae Walker, 44, entered a formal plea of not guilty. An announcement docket was set by District Judge Tracy Schumacher for 10 a.m. Aug. 7 to decide whether Walker will request a jury trial, non-jury trial, change her plea or enter into a blind plea.

Walker was originally charged in September with three counts of forcible oral sodomy, first-degree rape by instrumentation and the production of juvenile pornography. Fifteen charges were added earlier this month after a preliminary hearing was held in district court.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

The charges were changed to the following: three counts of first-degree rape, four counts of rape by instrumentation to a victim under the age of 14, four counts of procuring child pornography, eight counts of lewd acts with a minor and one count of soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.

Walker was part of a fugitive trio arrested in Vancouver, Wash., in August after search warrants for her home and a Moore couple’s home were issued in relation to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

The other two involved were Joseph and Danyale Siford.

The Sifords: Joseph Siford, 40, waived his preliminary hearing earlier this month and is bound over for trial on a waiver. His trial is set for 8:30 a.m. May 9 in front of Judge Schumacher.

He is currently facing nine charges, including four counts of first-degree rape by instrumentation, two counts of first-degree rape with a victim under the age of 14, two counts of lewd acts with a child under 16 and one count of first-degree attempted rape.

Danyale Siford, 35, was charged with a misdemeanor of failure to report child abuse. She entered into a blind plea in January and was sentenced to one year in county jail with credit to the time she had already served.

The trio was arrested Aug. 29, charged in Cleveland County District Court Sept. 6, and Danyale Siford bonded out Sept. 21.

Background information: Walker reportedly introduced the 13-year-old girl to the Sifords after she “met them through a Facebook site called ‘Party Friends,’ which she later learned was a meeting spot for ‘swingers,’” according to the affidavit filed with charges against the three.

Walker and the Sifords allegedly engaged in sexual contact with each other in the child’s presence. One encounter between Joe Siford and the girl was video-taped, the affidavit stated.

The crimes allegedly occurred multiple times in Noble at Walker’s residence, in Moore at the Sifords’ residence and at Lake Thunderbird in Norman.

Search warrants filed Aug. 21 in Cleveland County District Court show that the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office seized 24 items from the Sifords’ home and 19 items from Walker’s home for evidence in the case.

The items consisted of numerous electronic devices ranging from phones and laptops to camera devices and hard drives, as well as several CDs and DVDs.

Fraud Investigation Insurance Scam in Colorado

Colorado consumers, and Medicare beneficiaries, need to be on the alert for a new insurance scam that targets their personal information and bank accounts. Colorado’s Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), a national program funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, but administered by the Department of Regulatory Agencies’ (DORA) Colorado Division of Insurance, has recently received calls on this new problem. The Federal Trade Commission is also aware of the scam, noting that all consumers can be targeted, not just Medicare beneficiaries.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Scammers call, often from a Texas area code such as 402, greeting the person by name. The caller already knows the person’s address, phone number and, in some instances, banking details. The scammer, claiming to be calling from the government or Medicare, says that the person is being issued a (nonexistent) new national medical card or a new Medicare card as part of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (federal healthcare reform) in 2014. In order to finalize the new card, the scammer asks for banking information such as a bank routing numbers and accounts.

“So far, the beneficiaries reporting this scam to SMP have not become victims, but they have been concerned enough to report the incident,” said Alice Ierley, SMP Program Director. “We need to alert people to this so that they keep up their guard. We expect similar scams to pop up as the 2014 implementation date for healthcare reform approaches.”

The FTC has issued a blog post warning consumers about this scam and how people can protect themselves — consumer.ftc.gov/blog/variations-scheme.

Remember that scammers are interested in your personal information including social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and banking information. Unless it is a trusted source, never provide any personal details to anyone before you check them out. If asked for this information — and it is not a trusted source — then hang-up the phone and take the following actions. Keep details such as name of caller, telephone number, location of the caller and provide this information to investigators.

1. Report the call to the FTC: 1-877-FTC-HELP / ftccomplaintassistant.gov.

2. If you are a Medicare beneficiary, report the incident to the Colorado SMP fraud hotline, 1-800-503-5190. Know that Medicare never contacts beneficiaries by phone.

3. Contact your local police or sheriff department to report the incident.

4. Report the incident to your bank and alert them to the possible scam. Ask the bank to flag your account for questionable transactions.

5. Make sure you are on the no call list: National Do Not Call Registry — 1-888-382-1222 or donotcall.gov; Colorado No Call List — 1-800-309-7041 or coloradonocall.com

The Senior Medicare Patrol, SMP, empowers seniors and others to address Medicare fraud, billing errors and program abuse. The program uses volunteers to educate community members on preventing, detecting and reporting fraud. In Colorado, it is administered by DORA’s Division of Insurance. Missing Person Monument, CO Boy Still Missing

Two of the most publicized leads in the Dylan Redwine case have failed to turn up any new evidence, the La Plata County Sheriff’s office said on Tuesday.

On the day Dylan went missing, Nov. 19, 2012, a man reported seeing two boys walking alongside La Plata County 501, but investigators say they located the boys and determined they had nothing to do with the teen’s disappearance.

A stranger who was seen in the community asking where to buy gas that same day was also ruled out in February.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Dylan, 14, had been spending a court-ordered Thanksgiving visit with his father Mark Redwine when his father reported him missing from the home. Mark Redwine contacted the Bayfield Marshal’s Office that day to ask for help finding Dylan, and the teen’s mother contacted the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office to report the disappearance.

Authorities have said that they do not believe Dylan ran away, in part because he has his cellphone and has not contacted any of his friends.

A week after the disappearance, investigators served a search warrant on Mark Redwine’s home, while search teams have been using cadaver dogs and divers to search the Vallecito Lake-area.

“Mark’s and Dylan’s interactions and activities within the community on November 18th and 19th, as well as tips related to persons, locations and sightings remain under investigation,” the sheriff’s office told The Denver Post.

In February, Dylan’s parents taped a heated segment on Dr. Phil.

“I didn’t lose Dylan,” Mark Redwine said on the taped segment.

“Then why is he gone?” Dylan’s mother Elaine Redwine asks. “You have to answer that question. You had him, where is he?”

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Dylan Redwine is being asked to call a tip line at 970-382-7511, or the Durango-La Plata Crime Stoppers at 970-247-1112. There is a reward of more than $50,000.

Insurance Fraud Rockland, Mass. Woman Pleads Guilty

According to a release from the Attorney General’s office, “A Rockland woman has pleaded guilty to charges she fraudulently collected insurance payments of more than $27,000, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced today (March 27).
“The case was referred to the Attorney General’s Office by the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts (IFB) following its investigation.
“Olga O’Connor Rich, 41, pleaded guilty in Plymouth Superior Court to charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud (46 counts), larceny over $250 (four counts) and attempted larceny (four counts).

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html
“After the plea was entered Judge Carol Ball sentenced Rich to two-and-half years in the House of Correction with 30 days to serve, balance suspended for five years. Rich was also sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay full restitution.
“This defendant submitted fraudulent bills to insurance companies to collect for treatment that was never provided,” Coakley said. “Insurance fraud leads to higher premiums and puts a greater burden on consumers through no fault of their own.”
“This case is the culmination of a lengthy investigation by several agencies who work together to eliminate insurance fraud in Massachusetts, including the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts, the State Police, and the Attorney General’s office,” stated Daniel Johnston, Executive Director of the Insurance Fraud Bureau. “Taking fraud out of the system reduces insurance rates for all honest citizens.

“Rich was the sole owner of South Coastal Physical Therapy (SCPT), located in Brockton, from 2001 through 2009. Rich used her position at SCPT to submit fraudulent physical therapy bills to several automobile insurance carriers. These “supplemental bills” were sent months or years after the initial billings were sent to the insurers for purported treatment that was never rendered.
“Rich continued to submit the bills to insurers even after SCPT closed and ceased all operations in Dec. 2009. Rich continued to make calls to insurers seeking reimbursement as recent as Aug. 2011. As a result of the scheme, Rich submitted fraudulent bills totaling nearly $60,000 to insurance companies and received payments of more than $27,000 between Aug. 2007 and Aug. 2011.
“A special statewide grand jury returned indictments against Rich on Sept. 13, 2012. She was arraigned on October 10, 2012 in Plymouth Superior Court, where she pleaded not guilty and was released on personal recognizance. Rich pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Imposition of the sentence is stayed until April 9.
“The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jessica Massey of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Insurance and Unemployment Fraud Division with assistance from Shannon Legrice and Amber Foley of the AG’s Victim/Witness Services Division, Massachusetts State Police and the IFB.”

Pedophile Tracking Price, UT Woman Sentenced

A Price woman will spend at least 10 years in prison after she pleaded no contest to several counts aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Amanda Romano, 26, was originally charged with five counts of object rape of a child, five counts of sodomy upon a child, four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child — all first-degree felonies — and class A misdemeanor child abuse.

On Monday, she accepted a plea deal and pleaded no contest to three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. She also pleaded guilty to the class A misdemeanor child abuse.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Seventh District Judge Douglas Thomas sentenced Romano to 10 years to life in the Utah State Prison on each sexual abuse count, but ruled the sentences could run concurrent. He also sentenced Romano up to one year in jail on the child abuse charge, but ruled that time could be served at the prison, also concurrent to the other sentences.

Romano’s husband, Timothy Lee Romano, 25, was also charged in connection to sexual abuse of several children. He was sentenced earlier this week to a maximum of five years in prison. Timothy Romano pleaded no contest to two charges of third-degree felony attempted sexual abuse of a child.

According to prosecutors, there was conflicting evidence about Timothy Romano’s involvement in the sexual abuse, which police have said involved at least six children, from toddlers to teens, over a three-year period.

A friend of the couple’s, Tyler James Barney, has also been linked to the abuse and is charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

Barney has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He will back in court on May 6, and a trial has been scheduled on May 30.

Amanda Romano’s competency was initially in question, according to court documents, but it was determined that she could proceed with the case.

The aggravated counts denote a position of trust between the adults and their alleged victims, such as that of a teacher or babysitter. Prosecutors have not publicly discussed what relationship the Romanos had with the victims, but have said they were not babysitting the victims during the alleged crimes.

Identity Theft Oklahoma City Police Looking for Suspect

Oklahoma City Police Auto Theft Investigators are asking for your help identifying a man suspected of stealing people’s identity to sell stolen cars.

Edward Stupka is the latest victim in this elaborate plot.

Stupka went in to update the tag on his car and got some shocking news.

“When I brought my insurance papers in, the lady ran the tag and said, ‘The car belongs to someone else’ and I said, ‘it’s my car,’” Stupka said.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Police said they believe the suspect stole personal information out of his mailbox and used it to get the title to his car.

“You have somebody who is basically going through a neighborhood and shopping for whichever type car he’s wanting to steal at the time,” Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

The suspect steals victim’s information, makes a fake ID and uses that to get a duplicate title for the victim’s vehicle.

Then he steals a similar car and changes the VIN number to match the ill-gotten title.

“Obviously the man is getting this information, getting the duplicate title so he can go out and sell a stolen car,” Wardlow said. “You have a number of crimes being committed here.”

Stupka served in law enforcement for 27 years before he retired; he hates having his name used to cover a crime.

“I was upset,” he said.

Police have the suspect’s photo from the fake ID he made.

They’re confident someone will come forward with information on him.

As for Stupka, he said, ”I check all my cars now about once every month to make sure they’re still registered to me.”

He’s paying closer attention to what goes on around his home and his quiet neighborhood.

“All I can say is you just have to be aware of what you’re doing,” he said.

If you recognize the suspect, contact CrimeStoppers at (405)-235-7300.

You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
