Pedophile Tracking 245 Arrested in “Operation Sunflower”

U.S. special agents identified 123 victims of child sexual exploitation during a five-week-long global crackdown on child pornography that resulted in the arrests of 245 people in the United States and overseas, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents launched “Operation Sunflower” to rescue child victims and find people who trade and produce child pornography. The operation took place across the United States and in six countries and involved children as young as 2 years old.

“This operation is ultimately a tale of the perverse, pervasive and violent exploitation of children, very young children, to satisfy the dark pleasures of a group of twisted adults,” said ICE Director John Morton. “The grim reality is that online child exploitation is a very real part of our modern lives and is going on throughout the world right now on a grand scale.”

ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations special agents rescued 44 children directly from their abusers. Most of the 123 victims of exploitation were from the United States but about a dozen were in foreign countries.

Morton would not say which foreign countries were involved in the operation although he did say some of the arrests of the suspects took place in Mexico.

“The problem of child exploitation is hardly confined to the United States,” Morton said. “Almost every case we touch and investigate has a very strong overseas component.”

Increased usage of the Internet has allowed a much greater immediacy to pornography, Morton said, and in some cases child abuse is streamed live over the Internet.

Identity Theft Everett, WA Identity Theft Ring Busted by Police

EVERETT, Wash. — Using hotels as hubs for a crime network has a big catch — the paper trail.

Six defendants ended up in court on Friday after months of work by Everett police and the The United States Secret Service.

Snohomish County Prosecutors say the defendants defrauded at least 100 people through identity and bank account theft. Everett police say it was an intricate group.

“Runners and collectors and then the organizers of the ring,” said Sgt. Ryan Dalberg with the Everett Police Department.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Runners would poach information from mailboxes, collectors would use fake IDs and forge checks at local stores and organizers would wrangle it all.

One of the accused, Jennifer Speelmon, allegedly worked out of an Everett hotel. After searching her room, police found stolen jewels and coins, stolen mail, counterfeit checks and credit cards.

When she was arrested back in October, police say she was carrying a notebook with names and addresses — all under the title “people to rob.”

But it all came undone earlier this week at a Safeway in Shoreline, where the county says Latasha Chambers and Richard Walton tried to pass counterfeit checks inside. But Chambers dropped a check in the parking lot while trying to hide it.

They were arrested, and that led police to Michael Suryan, who is court documents is described as one of the ringleaders of the group.

Police went into Suryan’s room at the inn and found a trove of forgery equipment — computers, lamination machines, fake IDs and even the Washington state seal.

He, like many of the others, eventually admitted to the crimes and landed in court.

The hubs of a crime network undone by the paper trail.

DeWitt, NY — The owner of a Syracuse gym is facing identity theft and forgery charges after an investigation by DeWitt police.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Justin M. Edmond, 32, of Syracuse, was charged today with forgery and identity theft, both felonies, police said.

Shortly after she gave Edmond the completed application, the unauthorized credit card account was opened in the woman’s name, police said.

Edmond was arraigned in DeWitt Town Court and ordered held without bail at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Investigators are trying to determine whether there were any more victims. Anyone with information can call Investigator Thomas Regan at 449-3640.

Accident Reconstruction Car Slams into Dr.’s Office in Clark County

A car slammed into a Clark County doctor’s office Friday afternoon.

http://liarcatchers.com/accident_reconstruction.html

The property manager of Premier Eye Care said the car smashed into the front of the building around three o’clock collapsing a large section of the brick wall and breaking windows. The area in which the car struck the building is usually filled with people in the waiting room, but managers said the office doesn’t see patients on Friday or the accident could have been a lot worse. There’s no word on the driver’s condition or what led to the crash.

Missing Person Baby Found in Apartment Complex Hallway; Parents Missing

An abandoned baby was found in an apartment hallway in St. Louis County early Friday morning and the authorities are searching for the parents.

Child welfare officials took custody of a baby boy when he was found in his car seat in an apartment building hallway in the Breckenridge Hills area of St. Ann, an inner-ring suburb of St. Louis, Mo.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The baby, who is somewhere between 4 and 6 months old was healthy and warmly dressed, including a “cozy cover” over his car seat, reports Fox2Now. He had a bottle and was sitting in his car seat that Breckenridge Hills police Detective Jeff Heisse said was expensive.

“This is not a parent who has abused a child,” Heisse said.

The hallway of the Hickory Trace Apartment building complex is enclosed, so the baby was not as exposed to the cold temperatures as he would have been if he was outside. Authorities believe the baby had been there from late that evening until 5 a.m., when an apartment resident found him, reports St. Louis Today.

If you recognize this child, please call the Breckenridge Hills police at 314-426-1214 or St. Louis County police at 314-889-2341

Missing Person Body Found in Carter County, TN

Human remains found in Carter County could now be connected to a missing person’s case.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes says the remains were discovered off of Gap Creek Road along with a wallet belonging to the subject of a three month long missing person investigation.

But to assume that the skeletal remains and wallet ID belong to each other would be premature. Sheriff Mathes says there are other missing person cases in the area and even in other parts of the country.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Anytime there’s an unidentified body found – Mathes says the names of missing people surface from everywhere.

Mathes says, “We get calls from all over the country. If someone was passing through here that are suspect of a missing person, a lot of people have hope that they are going to see a person and that they are still alive.”

The remains are being analyzed by the University of Tennessee. Sheriff Mathes says results should be back within two weeks

Pedophile Tracking Satterfield, GA Man Pleads Guilty

Cody Allen Satterfield waved goodbye to tearful family members as he walked over to the bailiff, prepared to go back to jail after pleading guilty to crimes related to having sex with a 12-year-old when he was about 19.

Satterfield, who was living at 1223 Green Springs Road when he was arrested in 2011, pleaded guilty in Whitfield County Superior Court before Judge Cindy Morris on Thursday to child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. He requested a pre-sentence investigation, which allows the court to hear from him, the victim and others involved in his life, before he is sentenced on March 19.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

“He evaluated the case and determined that his best legal option was to go with the pre-sentence investigation,” said Satterfield’s attorney, Jerry Moncus.

Satterfield’s family members declined comment.

Law enforcement officials said the girl ran away from her home in Gordon County and called Satterfield to pick her up after meeting him on Facebook. Assistant District Attorney Ben Kenemer said there was no sexual contact the first couple of times they met, but they later had sex at least four times at his house, and she went with him to purchase condoms.

Officials said the girl later called her father to come get her, and the father contacted the sheriff’s office, which began investigating.

The district attorney’s office agreed to dismiss two charges of aggravated child molestation against Satterfield in exchange for guilty pleas on the other counts.

Enticing a child for indecent purposes is a felony that carries a sentence of between one and five years. Child molestation in this case is a felony and carries a sentence of from five to 20 years.

According to state law, “If the victim (of child molestation) is at least 14 but less than 16 years of age and the person convicted of child molestation is 18 years of age or younger and is no more than four years older than the victim, such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor …” Otherwise, the offense is a felony, even if the sex was consensual.
