Wrongful Death 4 Yr Anniversary of Murder of Shelby County Man

State Police said Friday they are appealing to the public for information on the four-year anniversary of the murder of a Shelby County man.

On November 9, 2008, James “Jimmy” Duckett was found dead in his home on Rockbridge Road. Duckett’s death has been ruled as a homicide.

State Police have been investigating the murder of Duckett for four years without making an arrest. KSP is hoping to re-introduce this case to the public with the hope that a citizen may have useful information in solving this case.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Police say not only was the murder of Duckett senseless and tragic, it was conducted in his home in such an extremely violent manner it leads law enforcement to suspect the person responsible for this act has an uncontrollable violent behavior disorder or was in a very desperate frame of mind, and could still pose a significant risk to the public.

After Duckett was murdered, his debit card was illegally used to make a cash withdraw from a Shelbyville bank drive through ATM around 3 a.m. on November 9, 2008. The suspect was driving Duckett’s silver Dodge pickup truck that was stolen from his home.

There is a substaintial cash reward for information that helps solve this murder. If anyone has any helpful information they are encouraged to call the Kentucky State Police, Post 12 and request to speak with a detective. All calls will be held in strict confidentiality.

If you have any information about his crime you can contact the KSP Frankfort Post at (502) 227-2221.

Fraud Investigation AG Warns of Energy Scams

With the start of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) this week, Attorney General Jack Conway and Community Action Kentucky (CAK) warn consumers seeking heating assistance to be leery of scam artists.

“Many consumers seeking home heating assistance are elderly or vulnerable citizens who are at high risk for scams,” General Conway said. “I want to make sure Kentuckians who need a helping hand this winter don’t fall victim to scam artists seeking to profit from the suffering of others.”

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The LIHEAP Subsidy component began November 5, 2012 and will run through December 14, 2012. During this time, CAK’s 23 Community Action Agencies (CAA) will take applications for low-income households in need of home heating assistance.

“It is important to note that LIHEAP is operated solely by Kentucky’s Community Action Agencies and that applications for home heating assistance are only accepted at local CAA offices or designated sites in each county,” said Rob Jones, Executive Director of Community Action Kentucky. “If you are solicited by phone or email to participate in LIHEAP for a fee or by providing personal financial information, it is a scam.”

To further protect Kentucky’s low-income and vulnerable citizens, Community Action Kentucky and Attorney General Conway are distributing informational posters to Community Action Agencies listing some of the most common scams, including:

• Calls from debt collectors. If you are uncertain about whether you owe a debt ask for proof of the debt in writing. Do not provide personal information. If callers harass you by phone, send a written notice that they stop calling you. Report abuse to Attorney General’s Office.
• Automated calls from “Cardholder Services” claiming to reduce your credit card interest rate. Beware, these calls are an attempt to enroll you in a debt consolidation service for a fee. If you need credit counseling, seek advice through a non-profit credit counseling organization. Call the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at 800-388-2227 for help.
• Calls from Sweepstakes or lotteries. If callers ask for money up front to pay “fees or taxes,” it is illegal. If you are sent a check, beware, the check is fake and the bank will hold you responsible. If you wire money to the “promoter,” your money is gone! All foreign sweepstakes and lotteries are illegal.
• Calls from the “876” area code. This is a Jamaican area code. Many scams come from this area. Also, beware that scammers can “spoof” the number from which they are calling and “trick” your caller ID. Calls may appear to be from a local source, but they are actually from out of the country.

To protect against fraud, report scams to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-888-432-9257 and to the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357.

Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office of Rate Intervention continues to protect Kentuckians from excessive or unnecessary utility rate increases. General Conway’s office has saved Kentucky rate payers approximately $825 million since 2008.

CAK represents 23 CAAs that provide direct social services to Kentuckians with low and moderate incomes in all 120 Kentucky counties. CAK assists children, families and senior citizens through a variety of services, including energy assistance, housing, weatherization and other conservation programs, and emergency assistance.

Pedophile Tracking Serial Pedophile Mentally Fit for Trial

SAGINAW, MI — More than a year after he was charged with sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl, a Taymouth Township man has learned that he will stand trial.

Saginaw County District Judge Kyle Higgs Tarrant on Monday, Nov. 5, concluded the preliminary hearing for Alan J. Blaney by ruling that prosecutors had shown probable cause to take him to trial in Circuit Court.

After months of psychiatric workers’ efforts to treat Blaney in an effort to make him mentally competent for trial, Blaney’s hearing began Oct. 16 and was continued Monday.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Blaney, 25, is charged with four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, which involves serious variations of touching. Tarrant at the conclusion of Monday’s hearing added the fourth charge, which includes an assault element to it.

Tarrant multiple times since Blaney was charged in August 2011 relied on reports from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti to rule that Blaney was not mentally competent and could not be found criminally responsible. The judge in early October, after hearing testimony from forensic center personnel, decided that Blaney was mentally fit for trial.

Saginaw County sheriff’s officials say Blaney sexually assaulted a 2-year-old girl about 2 a.m. Aug. 22, 2011, while spending the night at a friend’s house in Burt.

Sheriff’s Detective David Kerns has said that Blaney, who last lived at 2360 E. Burt, confessed to sexually assaulting three girls younger than 9 since 2004 and told police he had “too many victims to recall.”

Court officials had yet to set a trial date for Blaney, who remains jailed on a $1 million bond.

Wrongful Death Alicia Moore of Greenville, TX Body Found in Trunk

The heartbroken family of teenage girl who was murdered, placed in a trunk, and dumped along a remote stretch of Texas highway is making a painful plea for the killer to surrender to police.

The emotional plea came Thursday from Alicia Chanta Moore’s aunt, Jessica Byrd, on behalf of the 16-year-old murder victims’ entire family.

“Do the right thing and turn yourself in. That’s all we ask you to do so we can get some sort of peace from this situation,” Byrd told The Huffington Post.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The distraught aunt, whose deep sorrow was evident in her voice, added, “We’re not here to judge you. That’s not our job. That’s God’s job.”
The body of 16-year-old Alicia Moore was discovered at about 12 p.m. Tuesday in a furniture trunk along Highway 47. The body, police said, was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for the positive identification.

According to Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken, detectives are treating the case as a homicide. Moore appears to have suffered trauma wounds, though the exact cause of death has not yet been determined, Busken said.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us with this investigation,” Busken said. “We have received many tips from the community, and we hope those tips continue to come in.”

The police chief did not elaborate on what type of trauma Moore suffered and did indicate whether police have a suspect in mind.

Moore’s body was found in Van Zandt County, about 40 miles away from Greenville where she disappeared. Moore was last seen Friday afternoon when she got off the school bus.

Missing Person Remains of Sac City, Iowa Man Found

SAC CITY, Iowa (AP) — The skeletal remains found buried in the basement of a Sac City home are those of a man last seen three years ago.

Sac City Police Chief John Thomsen says the state medical examiner’s office used dental records to confirm the identity as Mark Koster. He was listed as a missing person in 2010. His family reported he was last seen in May 2009.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Koster who was 58, was the prior owner of the home and had been living with an unknown man about three months before he disappeared. Police are investigating the death.

No one had lived in the house after Koster disappeared and family members sold the house in May.

The new homeowner was remodeling the basement and found the buried remains.
