Missing Person Missing 16 Year Old Girl’s Body Found in Lake

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A missing 16-year-old girl was found dead along the shore of Lake Lanier late Friday in what police said they were treating as a suspicious death.

Hannah Truelove was reported missing Thursday by her mother. A person walking in the woods near the Lake Lanier Club apartments in Gainesville on Friday saw her body and called police, Maj. Woodrow Tripp of Hall County Sheriff’s office told WSB-TV. Police worked into Saturday morning gathering evidence and examining the scene.

Truelove’s body was discovered not far from the apartment that the victim shared with her mother.

Investigators declined to comment Saturday on a possible cause of death, which will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Besides interviewing the victim’s family and associates, police are also investigating whether the teenager had a stalker. On a Twitter account that appeared to be used by the victim, Truelove made reference on Aug. 12 to having a stalker. She did not elaborate.

Fraud Investigation 14 Charged in Eastern Kentucky

LONDON, Ky. (AP) — A federal grand jury in London has charged 14 Eastern Kentucky residents with defrauding Social Security and Medicaid out of more than $1 million.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports (http://bit.ly/NrnPrB) several of those charged concealed the fact that they lived with their spouses — making it appear they had less financial support in order to qualify for benefits.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

In one case, prosecutors believe that Francis Terry, of McCreary County, concealed the fact she lived with her husband while improperly receiving more than $200,000 in Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid payments. Albert Terry was indicted with his wife.

Henrietta Winchester, also of McCreary County, was charged with illegally receiving more than $120,000 in benefits by failing to disclose that she lived with, and received support from, her husband Denver. The two also were charged with lying to federal employees.

Others charged by the grand jury are Novella Lawson, and Earl and Rebecca Johnson, of Whitley County; Lula Lewis, of Leslie County; Patty Justice, Sasha DeHart and Alice Cole, of Pike County; Herman Caldwell, of Bell County; Frank Holland, of Perry County; and Sarah Binder, of Laurel County.

The Johnsons allegedly received more than $73,000 in survivor benefits for a grandchild in their care but spent the money on themselves. Caldwell was charged with receiving more than $104,000 in federal disability payments even though he had a job.

The health care fraud and theft charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Social Security fraud and lying charges carry a top sentence of five years.

The cases are not connected.

Fraud Investigation Man Admitted He Faked Car Crash

A man admitted to Olmsted County sheriff’s deputies that he faked a car crash Wednesday morning for the purpose of insurance fraud.

The man reported the crash about 10 a.m., and when the deputies arrived, they found him lying along the roadway in the 13000 block of County Road 9. He complained of neck and back injuries, and his car was in the ditch, said Sgt. Tom Claymon.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Officers soon realized the scene was odd and looked around the crash site and into the car. They found a rope in the exact length for tying between the steering wheel and rear-view mirror, which was broken off the car. The vehicle also was damaged in other ways, but not consistent with a crash, Claymon said.

They also found in the vehicle an insurance check, presumably from a prior claim, Claymon said.

Officers saw that the man’s boots were spotless though the ditch was muddy. When officers came out from the ditch, their shoes were muddy, Claymon said.

Eventually, the man admitted that he and his wife tried to fake the accident for insurance fraud.

Claymon did not know where the couple lived. They were not arrested. While the two hadn’t filed an insurance claim for the accident, they could be charged with a crime for making a false report to law enforcement, Claymon said.

Missing Person Gabrielle Swainson

RICHLAND COUNTY — A reward now is being offered for information in the case of missing Richland County teen Gabrielle Swainson.

Community members have donated $6,000 for information leading investigators to Swainson or to the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance from her home a week ago today.

The house on Tamara Way was quiet Friday, but at times this week it has been a flurry of activity as family, friends, police and the media have passed through its doors – all reminders that 15-year-old Gabrielle, missing since Saturday, is not where she should be.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“I would never wish this on any family,” said Gabrielle’s aunt, Tara Swainson. “You don’t know how to cope.”

Swainson and her husband, Mario, have been staying with Elvia Swainson, who is Mario’s sister and Gabrielle’s mother, since Monday when they left their Atlanta home to be by her side.

All three have been trying to do what they can to stay busy, Swainson said, including passing out fliers and appealing to the public for any information on where Gabrielle might be.

Friday, Tara Swainson was waiting for the family to return home from their first meeting with the FBI and had stayed behind at the family’s northeast Richland County residence to make sure someone was at the home.

“No one knows what to do, what to think, what to make of all of this,” she said as she sat at the family’s kitchen table, wringing her hands.

She said the family was “encouraged” that agents and analysts with the FBI as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have joined in the search for her niece.

“But what would be the most encouraging thing is to have Gabbiee back home and safe and secure,” she said.

The family was notified by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday that the FBI would be brought in to assist in the search. Police increasingly think the vanished teen was abducted.

By Friday, the department had issued a new flier in an attempt to coordinate various community efforts that had produced a variety of flier.

“We’re just trying to get it organized instead of doing so many different things or different fliers,” said Sherrif Leon Lott. “Everyone has been very helpful, and we appreciate that. But we’re just trying to coordinate everything now.”

Of the $6,000 in reward money offered, $2,500 is from an anonymous donor and $2,500 was donated by Lott personally. Another $1,000 comes from CrimeStoppers.

That amount could increase as other donations come in, the sheriff’s department said.

While Tara Swainson waited she talked of her niece – recalling happier times when the quiet but vivacious teen who loves music and dance would visit her and her husband in Atlanta.

Swainson, who has two adult sons, always enjoyed their time together. The two spent an afternoon together last September when Gabrielle and her mother came to Atlanta. The two went to a movie and picked up some nail polish on the way back.

“It was just something to do,” she said. “I have two boys, so I never had anyone to paint nails with.”

At other times Swainful was tearful, especially when her thoughts turned to Gabrielle’s mother and what she has been through this week.

“The two of them have always had each other,” she said. “They’re really, really close. Her whole life is Gabbiee.”

Meanwhile, reminders that all is not well are everywhere in the family home.

Gabrielle’s alarm clock continues to go off at the same time every morning – 5:25 a.m. – as it first did when her mother entered her room last Saturday and found her bed empty.

Having not been able to figure out how to turn it off completely, Swainson, who has been staying in the room across the hall, turns it off every morning.

She wonders why her niece would have set it in the first place, thinking maybe the rising sophomore was getting ready little by little for when school started back at Ridge View High School on Thursday – something she was looking forward to.

The family she says, and especially Gabrielle’s mother, are beside themselves as they work with law enforcement, hoping for Gabbiee’s return.

“We have to find her,” she said. “We need her back.”

Fraud Investigation 7 Arrests in Leon County

Sheriff Larry Campbell says a fraud ring has been dismantled in Leon County. Sheriff Campbell stated, “These investigations were brought to our attention by vigilant employees in the loss prevention sections of our local Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores. Their diligence coupled with good information sharing, surveillance and hard work from the detectives uncovered and resolved several crimes at once.”

On August 12, 2012, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit was contacted by Wal-Mart Loss Prevention Officers who witnessed an employee accepting multiple counterfeit $20 bills.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Detectives made contact with Daesha Johnson, 26, and Ulysses Hall, 26. Hall and Johnson have two children together. Hall was observed passing Johnson 25 counterfeit $20 bills for purchases at the Wal-Mart located at 4021 Lagniappe Way in Tallahassee. Detectives learned that the counterfeit bills were possibly coming from the residence located at 5506 B.J. Cox Road, which is in the area of another counterfeiting case involving two counterfeit $20 bills being given to a pizza delivery man to pay for pizzas. All 27 counterfeit bills displayed the exact same serial number.

When Detectives went to the residence on B.J. Cox Road, they observed a vehicle registered to Anthony Hawkins in the driveway. Hawkins was also under investigation for a series of credit card fraud related thefts at Sam’s Club located at 3122 Dick Wilson Boulevard in Tallahassee. During that investigation, Hawkins was observed writing down credit card numbers from customers and then using them to purchase gift cards. Hawkins, a cashier at Sam’s Club, would then swipe the gift card during a cash purchase to pay for it and then pocket the cash.

When detectives went to make contact with the residents at 5506 B.J. Cox Road on August 23, 2012, they observed Antowan Hawkins, 19, sneak outside and attempt to conceal a marijuana plant from them. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and located counterfeit money, the gift card used at Sam’s Club, the actual twenty dollar bill from the counterfeiting process, the cell phone used to order the pizzas, computer equipment, cocaine and marijuana. In addition to Johnson, Hall, Anthony and Antowan Hawkins, Marvin Barrington, 19, Zanders Barrington, 21, and Moses Footman, 21 were also located inside the residence. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are forthcoming.

Pedophile Tracking 30 Year Sentence

A Jeffersontown man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a young family member multiple times for nearly a decade.

Terry Wescott, 64, also revealed he’s abused seven others.

Under a deal he accepted Wednesday, Wescott pleaded guilty in Franklin Circuit Court to five counts of second-degree sodomy (victim under 14), one count of intimidating a witness, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse (victim under 12) and one count of incest.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

On the prosecutor’s recommendation, Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd sentenced Wescott to 10 years on four of the sodomy counts, to run concurrently, and 10 years for another sodomy count, to run consecutively, for a total of 20 years.

He also sentenced him to one year for intimidating a witness and 10 years for incest, to run concurrent to the sodomy charges, and five years each for the sexual abuse charges, to run consecutively, for a total of 30 years.

Wescott was also ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution to the victim.

According to the plea deal, Wescott began abusing a young relative in March of 1982, when the child was 6 years old, and he continued abusing him “on multiple occasions” until December of 1991.

In court Wednesday, Wescott admitted to molesting the victim, engaging in anal and oral sex, taking naked pictures and masturbating in front of him.

He also said he threatened the child with harm if he told anyone what happened.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Dana Todd said Wescott was “adamant” with investigators that he didn’t physically force the child to engage in these acts.

“But still, you recognize that you were an adult and he was a little boy,” Todd said to Wescott in court Wednesday.

“Yes, that’s right,” he responded.

As part of the plea deal, Wescott revealed to Todd that he’s sexually abused seven others. Todd said her office is reaching out to those victims and declined to say where they’re from or give their ages, citing pending investigations.

Wescott said under oath before accepting his plea deal Wednesday that those seven plus his relative were his only victims. Todd said Wescott has disclosed privately in a meeting with her and his lawyers what acts he’s committed with those victims.

According to the plea deal, Wescott will not face additional charges for those seven victims. If more come forward, or if those victims reveal that Wescott did more than what he disclosed to Todd, then additional charges may be filed against him, Todd said.

Wescott’s lawyers said Wednesday that once he’s eligible, they may seek shock probation. Todd said the commonwealth would oppose probation.

“We feel that the length of time (of abuse), the course of conduct and the impact on this victim merits incarceration,” Todd said after court.

“It takes a lot of strength and courage for a victim to come forward, and it’s gratifying when you have an outcome that reflects at least some measure of justice.”

Wescott was arrested by Kentucky State Police in February after a two-month long investigation, after the victim, now an adult, approached state police in December about filing sexual abuse charges. Wescott was charged with three counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of second-degree sodomy, intimidating a witness, first-degree sexual abuse, use of a minor under 16 years old in a sexual performance and incest.

He’s been lodged at the Franklin County Regional Jail since his arrest on $100,000 bond.

Missing Person Keith GIll

IRONVILLE, N.Y. –

By land and by air, the search continued in Ironville for Keith Gill, 45.

“Kind of like a little mystery,” Linda Breed said.

Breed walks her four pit bulls up and down Peasely Road at least twice a day. She first noticed an abandoned, dark blue BMW with Pennsylvania plates at a pull off Sunday evening. But when it was still there the next day, Breed became suspicious.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“I glanced in there to see if there was somebody passed out,” she said.

Her friend called police. They traced the car to Gill. On Wednesday, his family reported him missing. Gill was last seen Sunday at his family cottage on Loon Lake in Chestertown, about 50 miles away.

“The family says this is out of character for him to leave, not tell anyone where he was going or indicate where he was going,” N.Y. State Police Capt. John Tibbitts said.

Two dozen law officers spent another day searching the woods near Penfield Pond, the area where Gill’s car was found. A dive team also checked the Deep Hole swimming area. What happened to Gill is baffling investigators. Foul play has not been ruled out.

“We don’t have one theory per se, we have not discounted any possible theory,” Tibbitts said.

Police are asking anyone who attended the Penfield Heritage Days Sunday to take a close look at Gill’s picture. His car was found about one-quarter mile from where the festival was held.

“We are unable to find any reason why he came to this part of Essex County,” Tibbitts said.

Along with the ground and air search, investigators are going door to door interviewing people in town. They are also following up on leads in Gill’s hometown and in the Philadelphia area, where he recently lived.

“It’s a big effort, they are certainly doing their best to try and find the person,” Breed said.

A family and a community waiting for answers of what happened to Keith Gill.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Keith Gill is asked to call New York State Police.
