Arson Investigation NJ Teen Accused

A New Jersey teenager charged with attempted murder and arson for allegedly setting a fire at her family’s house remains held pending another court hearing.

The 15-year-old was due in family court in Gloucester County on Monday. However, that’s been postponed after her detention hearing took place over the weekend. Her name is being withheld because she is a juvenile.

Authorities say the Saturday morning fire was set with gasoline. Most of the damage was contained to the second floor of the single-family house.

The teen and six other family members were injured, including two who were taken to a burn center in Pennsylvania with internal burns.

The suspect is being held at the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center.

Photo Surveillance Shows Man Exposing Himself to Teens

Sandy Springs Police arrested 29-year old Fernando Arriola-Lobo of Cedar Run in Sandy Springs, Thursday, following complaints of a man exposing himself to middle school students walking to school.

Detectives learned that Arriola-Lobo, who was employed by the Azalea Park Apartments as a maintenance employee, accessed a vacant apartment building that was within view of the sidewalk along North River Drive, commonly used by students who walked to the nearby Sandy Springs Middle School. While in the apartment, Arriola-Lobo exposed himself to female students from a window as the students walked pass the vacant apartment.

On Wednesday, two female students reported the incident to a Fulton County School Resource Officer who notified SSPD. On Thursday morning, detectives set up surveillance across from the apartment. Just before 8 a.m., they witnessed and photographed a man, later identified as Arriola-Lobo, as he exposed himself to several female students as they walked past the apartment.

When the detectives converged on the apartment, the suspect was gone. A detective later noticed a man and a pickup truck who were seen near the incident area prior to and then just after the incident. The man was detained and questioned about the incident. He was arrested a short time later after admitting to exposing himself to the students.

Fernando Arriola-Lobo is charged with six counts of Public Indecency and six counts of Child Molestation. He is in the Fulton County Jail and has no bond at this time.

Wrongful Death Dad Runs Over Another Dad Killing HIm

An argument between two fathers picking up their kids at an Arizona kindergarten turned deadly, with one man allegedly running down and killing the other with his car, The Arizona Republic reports.

Anthony Parrinello, 31, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Carmello D’Alessandro, 42.

Police say the conflict, according to witnesses, began in the parking lot of Canyon Spring School in Anthem, with heated words and shouts of “Let’s settle this down the street!”

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Parrinello then challenged D’Alessandro to a fight at a nearby Walmart, according to witnesses.

Police say that when D’Alessandro didn’t show up at the site, Parrinello started hunting him down in his blue Ford Excursion, the newspaper reports.

A passerby later found D’Alessandro lying in the street two blocks from the school after being run down by a vehicle. He died at a hospital, the newspaper reports.

Police say Parrinello’s vehicle had been wiped off when they found him, but that a search turned up blood and other evidence.

The reason for Monday’s fight is unclear, police say.

The pair had tangled before, as far back as 2007, The Republic reports, prompting D’Alessandro to file a protective order against Parrinello.

Drug Dog Sweep Drug Dogs Return to Kern High Schools

As Kern High Schools gear up for “back to school” Monday, the four year old program for using drug-sniffing dogs to discourage drugs on campus is slated to continue. The program, originally introduced by Ken Mettler, is meant as a deterrent to drugs on campuses.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

The program uses a single drug-sniffing dog on loan from the Kern County Probation office. The dog, Rossi, has not not yet visited any of the campuses. And due to budgetary constraints, Rossi isn’t likely to be called in unless there is suspicion or probable cause for a search. The use of the dog will be at the school administration’s discretion and costs about $350 per visit. Should the dog be called in, the searches will be confined to lockers, desks, and cards in campus parking lots.

While some argue that the program could provide a stronger showing of the “zero tolerance to drugs policy” if the schools hired a private contractor for the drug searches, the financial impact of hiring a private firm to accomplish that would have a price tag one hundred times that of the per visit rate now. The $30-40K price tag, many observe, would be better used in hiring teaching assistants or using the funds to add class periods.

Fraud Investigation 6 Worst Scams by Contractors

Extreme storms may be America’s new norm so homeowners must doubly protect against bogus repair work by shady contractors, warns the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.

Climate change means more frequent and intense storms may be coming, reveals a new study. The biggest rain and snow storms are getting bigger, jeopardizing more property and lives across the U.S.

Most home contractors are honest. But extreme weather will attract more shady operators whose bogus repairs can cost homeowners thousands of dollars, the Coalition warns.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Routine home fixups and remodeling also invite scams.

Homeowners must be alert to costly repair scams, starting now. Rainstorms, hail, tornadoes and wildfires already are causing considerable home damage this year. Some may reflect climate trends, and more disasters are likely before the year ends.

Dishonest drifters often go door-to-door, especially after disasters. Fixing bad repair work also can take months of headaches, and the victim’s homeowner policy may not cover fraudulent repairs.

Roofer inquiries have ranked No. 1 for five straight years by the Better Business Bureau.

Homeowners can better ensure that repairs are done right by knowing how to find an honest and reputable contractor.

The six worst scams, according to the coalition:

Disappearing downpayment. The contractor demands a large downpayment, then disappears after doing little or no work.

Shoddy work. The work is low quality, using cheap materials. You may have to redo the entire job, often at your own expense.

Phantom damage. A contractor invents storm damage. Nicking sidewall or roof shingles with a screwdriver to mimic hail damage is one come-on.

Worsens damage. Contractors enlarge holes in a roof to increase their billings. Billing for phantom work is another ruse.

Pay your deductible. Offering to pay your insurance deductible is a con to lure your business.

Insurer go-between. The contractor elbows in as the go-between with your insurer. You lose control over your valuable claim.

The coalition offered these six ways to fight back:

Avoid door-to-door drifters. Stick with reputable contractors based locally or in your region.

Verify license. Contact your state and local licensing agencies to ensure the contractor is licensed.

Contact local Better Business Bureau. See if the contractor has a history of complaints, and a BBB review.

Work with your insurance company & agent. Don’t let the contractor do the talking. Work directly with your insurer and agent to ensure the repairs are done right and covered damages are paid.

Insist on a contract. Have a signed contract specifying exactly what work will be done, plus the price and repair schedule.

Watch for red flags. No business cards or referrals…P.O. Box instead of a street address…van looks rundown and has no company name…poor personal appearance…can’t show proof of workers compensation insurance or surety/performance bond.

Identity Theft College Student ID Theft

St. Louis (KSDK) – As college students head back to campus, fighting fraud may not be at the top of their list of priorities. But it should be.

The Better Business Bureau says college students are particularly vulnerbale to identity theft. The BBB has this advice for college students and their parents.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Send sensitive mail to your parents’ home or a post office box. School mailboxes are not always secure and often can be accessed easily in a dorm or apartment.
Important documents should be stored under lock and key. This includes your Social Security card, passport and bank and credit card statements.
Shred credit card offers and any paper documents that have sensitive financial information rather than just tossing them out.
Never lend your credit or debit card to anyone. Just say no if your friend wants to borrow your card or asks you to co-sign for a loan or financing for items like a TV.
Make sure your computer has up-to-date antivirus and anti-spyware software. Always install any updates and patches to your computer’s operating system or browser software, which help keep your computer safe from any new advances by identity thieves online.
Always check your credit or debit card statements closely for any suspicious activity. The sooner you identify any potential fraud, the less you’ll suffer in the long run.
Check out unfamiliar websites with the BBB. Look for the BBB Accredited Business seal along with other trust seals; click on the seals to confirm that they are legitimate.
Check your credit report at least once a year. You are entitled to one free report a year from each of the three reporting bureaus: TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. Look for any suspicious activity or inaccuracies. You can do this for free by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.

Wrongful Death Body Found in Chamblee Restaurant Parking Lot

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

DeKalb investigators are looking for the driver of a blue SUV believed to be connected with the death of a man found in a restaurant parking lot.

Authorities said the victim’s body was found early Saturday outside of the Mad Italian restaurant on Savoy Drive near Interstate 285 in Chamblee. The man, who had a gunshot wound to the torso, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Outside the restaurant, Channel 2’s Ashley Swann found investigators combing through several pieces of evidence, including sunglasses and shoes that were left behind.

Mad Italian restaurant manager Jeremy Brown and an employee were the only people inside of the business at about 7 a.m. when they discovered the body in the parking lot.

“I don’t think anybody should have to suffer what that that man suffered this morning,” said Brown, still shaken up by the situation.

Investigators said witnesses saw a blue SUV speed away from the scene. They are still looking for that vehicle believed to be a Ford Expedition.

“We’re asking for the public’s help; any information they can give us. We need to identify this person,” said Chamblee Police Capt. Michael Beller.

Police are also trying to determine where the shooting happened, as it appears the shooting did not occur in the restaurant parking lot.

Despite the tragedy, Brown tries to assure customers that safety is a priority at his restaurant, which is a popular spot for families in the area.

“It’s just a tragic event. We’re sorry it happened. We just want people to know it’s still a safe place to come and bring their family and have a good meal,” Brown said.
