Pedophile Tracking KY Pastor Should Speak in Child Sex Case

We applaud police for pursuing this case. We are sad for the victim, but are grateful that this youngster is cooperating with law enforcement.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

And we’re sad that the church’s pastor refused to talk with the media. He has an opportunity to act cowardly and say nothing or act courageously and compassionately by urging others who may have seen, suspected or suffered the young leader’s crimes to step forward. We hope he’ll show real leadership and help police and prosecutors resolve this tragic situation.

Fraud Investigation Postal Worker Being Investigated

SOUTH HARRISON TWP. — Laura Dunn’s birthday happened to occur in the same week that her daughter Taylor graduated from Kingsway Regional High School last month, so there were a lot of cards coming through the mailbox at the Dunn home.

But one Saturday afternoon, when Laura Dunn returned home from work, she noticed four cards — three for her birthday and one for Taylor’s graduation — had been opened.

“Sometimes you get a piece of mail that looks like has been through something,” Laura Dunn said. “But, all four of these had been blatantly opened.”

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

She originally thought her husband must have opened them, but when that proved false, she thought it must be a kid walking up and down the street looking in mailboxes. She decided to go to the post office Monday morning to report it, just to make sure the postal employees could keep an eye out.

But when she got there, she realized that the problem was not just a childhood prank.

“The postmaster came out and talked to me and said they have it under control,” she said. “But it was one of their carriers who was filling in for the lady who normally delivers for us.”

Later in the day, after being assured that the carrier was not on her route, Dunn found another opened card in her mail and contacted local police. She was later informed that the postal worker was found with a sixth card addressed to her daughter — which the sender said had originally contained $40.

“Someone went in my mailbox, opened my mail and stole money,” she said. “When I found out it was a postal employee, I was really annoyed.”

Scott Balfour, a spokesperson for the United States Postal Inspection Service confirmed that special agents with the USPS Office of Inspector General have identified an employee they believe is responsible for recent theft complaints, but the fate of the employee has yet to be determined. His identity cannot be released until an investigation is completed.

“He’s currently not assigned to work, pending the outcome of the investigation,” Balfour said. “Once the investigation is complete, a report will be provided to the local prosecutor and to postal service management.”

But Dunn is wondering how many other people could have been affected, and she worries that much more than $40 was probably stolen from her daughter’s graduation gifts.

“It’s just not the same today as it used to be. You can’t just send things through the mail anymore,” she said.

Missing Person Alexander Bergman of Somers, CT

State and local authorities have launched a search in the Ridgefield woods for a 23-year-old man who went missing about 16 hours ago.

Alexander Bergman, of Somers, was last seen by his friends near 786 Ridgebury Road, wearing only blue and white swimming trunks, according to Ridgefield Fire Chief Heather Burford. Bergman was reported missing by his friends, she said.

While Burford would not comment as to the circumstances surrounding the missing person report, she said, “Obviously safety is a concern.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Bergman is described as a 6-foot, 2-inch tall white male who weighs 190 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities have used an emergency notification system to alert residents of the northern third of town about the incident, including a description of Bergman. If anyone sees him, they are asked to call Ridgefield police at 203-438-6531.

A Coordinated Effort

Burford said that bloodhounds from the Connecticut State Police are in the woods attempting to track Bergman. ATV vehicles are on scene and are at the ready to roll out if and when the bloodhounds pick up a scent, Burford said.

Reports also indicate that aerial support from Westchester County is being used to assist in the effort.

Arson Investigation Fayette Mall

Scary moments when a fire broke out inside a store at the Fayette Mall. The smoke and flames were spotted around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Firefighters say the fire appears to have been set intentionally.

Crews are now calling it an arson investigation and employees at DEB shops in the Fayette Mall are left to clean up the mess.

Several dresses burned together after it seems someone set fire to the clothes. Employees estimate there is about $5,000 to $10,000 in damage.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Sadly for the store, this is the third time in the last year they’ve been at the center of an arson investigation. The last time was earlier this year and the damage was estimated at almost $20,000.

Before Sunday’s fire, employees say they spotted two teen girls in the area of where the fire started. Employees immediately evacuated the store.

“I tried not to panic, but it was pretty scary to know that you could just be shopping and all of a sudden a fire could break out and it got pretty big. There were three or four dresses on fire at once,” says Gary Hayes, a shopper.

Police say they are still looking for the people responsible for doing this. If you have any information, call Lexington Police.

Police won’t say if the fires are connected.

Wrongful Death Guy Shannon Charged After DWI Led to DNA Test

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Missouri man forced to provide a DNA sample after pleading guilty in a drunken driving case has been charged in a 23-year-old killing.

Prosecutors announced Friday that Guy Shannon Jr., 43, of Odessa, faces charges of first-degree murder and forcible rape. Shannon is accused of strangling and assaulting Marcia Lynn Davis, 20, of Independence, in March 1989.

Davis was last seen leaving the Jackson County Jail after visiting a friend. A homeless person found her partially clad body in an abandoned apartment building the next day, according to a probable cause statement filed in the case.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Shannon became a suspect after he was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2010 and, as a felon, had to give a DNA sample. It was entered in a database and ultimately linked him to genetic material found on Davis’ body. Authorities said only one in 10 quadrillion unrelated people would have the same genetic profile.

Davis’ friends and family were shown Shannon’s photo but didn’t recognize him, the probable cause statement said.

When interviewed, Shannon said he had never seen Davis before. He told authorities he had never been to the building where her body was found or picked up hitchhikers or women on the street.

Shannon requested an attorney when told his DNA was found on the victim, the probable cause statement said.

Although the charges were filed Monday, the case was temporarily sealed until Thursday, when the warrant was served.

Bond has been set at $350,000. No attorney is listed for Shannon in online court records.

Arson Investigation Gloucester Township Barn

GLOUCESTER TWP. — A pole barn containing reminders of a family’s century in farming was destroyed Saturday in a pre-dawn fire that authorities said was deliberately set.

A Clementon man seen running away from the area has been charged with arson.

“It is too unbelievable. To be this evil to do this,” offered farm owner Allison Irwin as she surveyed the destruction at mid-day with her husband, a family friend and a firefighter.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

The fire at the Chews Landing Road farm — the pole barn is about a quarter mile from the roadway — was discovered about 3 a.m. by police on patrol.

The fire was fueled by 600 bales of hay that Irwin said was inside.

Tenants who live on the property saw a man fleeing the farm, Irwin said.

They provided a “suspect description” that was radioed to patrol units in the area, police said.

“One thing let to another,” Irwin said. She was alerted to the fire by her sister, who lives across the street. Irwin herself lives down the road.

“A subject fitting the exact description given by eyewitnesses” was located nearby, police said. That individual, later identified as Gregory W. Woodman, 26, of the unit block of Higgins Drive, “struggled” with police before being placed in handcuffs.

Irwin noted there were three miniature horses in a stable about 100 feet from the now destroyed barn. The horses were safely removed.

The farm owner noted there was an unsuccessful attempt to also set a hen house on fire.

As she spoke, a chicken squawked from inside.

“A chicken just laid an egg,” she said.

Late Saturday morning, what remained were several charred timbers, and the burned remains of a pickup truck, a tractor and some hay.

“Most of that stuff is 50-60 years-old,” Irwin said.

“It’s precious stuff to us. It belonged to my father.”

While the family has been farming for a century, the pole barn itself was new.

“It was just three-years-old.”

“July 31,” Irwin said softly. Straight line winds took down the former barn.

Woodman is charged with two counts of aggravated arson and single counts of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. The aggravated assault charge relates to a firefighter who was battling blaze, police said.

Woodman was being held in the Camden County Jail, Camden, in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.

A firefighter suffered smoke inhalation while at the scene, police said. He was transported to a local hospital.

Members of the Chews Landing, Blenheim and Blackwood fire departments, assisted by other companies, fought the fire.

The incident remained under investigation Saturday by police, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Chews Landing Fire Marshal’s Office.
