Missing Person Warrant Issused for Missing Owen Cornell

SHAFTSBURY — A man convicted in April of having lewd conduct with a boy, who was reported missing Wednesday, had a warrant for his arrest issued Thursday for an alleged violation of his release conditions.

State police said Owen Cornell, 29, of Holiday Drive, was last seen on June 16 at noon. He told his mother he was going to a party, but did not say where or with whom.

According to an affidavit by Det. Sgt. Tyler Burgess, of the Vermont State Police, Cornell was released from court in April after his conviction of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child on a number of conditions, one being that he check in at the Vermont State Police barracks in Shaftsbury on Mondays and Thursdays between 8 a.m. and noon. Burgess said records indicate he had been checking in regularly, but missed the check-in on June 18. He has been cited for violating conditions of his release, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

According to court records, Cornell is free on conditions pending a sentencing hearing. One had been scheduled for July 29, but was put off to July 13, as his attorney filed for a psychiatric evaluation regarding his competency.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-442-5421.

According to police, the offense Cornell was convicted of occurred on May 28, 2010. A then 13-year-old boy accused him of having lewd contact with him.

Pedophile Tracking Michael Joseph Snowden

Michael Joseph Snowden, a 21-year-old repeat sex offender, went to the Freed-Montrose Library in November 2010 to hack in to a computer to look at child pornography and wait for prey.

When a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old brother went in to the restroom with their father to change for a swim lesson nearby, Snowden noticed. The dad had forgotten the swimsuits in the car and left the boys to disrobe in a stall.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

When he returned minutes later, he found his children screaming and called Houston police.

After listening to what happened in that bathroom, state District Judge Randy Roll on Thursday said he had to protect the community from Snowden, a diagnosed pedophile.

“I have to sentence you to life in prison,” Roll said. “I think it’s the only solution, the only remedy.”

Prosecutors said Thursday that as soon as the father stepped out of the public bathroom, Snowden crept in, hissing at the boys.

He got down on the floor to see which stall the two were in, then began crawling under the stall wall.

When he emerged from under the wall, sniffing at the children like a dog, the boys started screaming. Snowden then tried to perform oral sex on the 6-year-old.

“I crawled under,” Snowden testified. “I molested him.”

Snowden was only in the stall for a few moments, then crawled into a nearby stall to hide.

When police arrived, he was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child under age 14, a first-degree felony punishable by a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Asked for leniency

Instead of going through a trial, Snowden pleaded guilty and asked the judge for leniency.

“I’m very sorry for what I’ve done, and I’m not going to re-offend,” he said. He said he will continue taking medication for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Before he took the stand, the 6-year-old took the witness stand to face his attacker.

“He did something bad to me, in a mean way,” he testified. His mother said the boy’s nightmares have stopped and almost a year of counseling has helped.

“He seems pretty brave and strong,” she said.

Before the ruling, Snowden testified he was molested by a stranger when he was 8, which made prosecutors scoff. He had never said that before Thursday, despite being arrested several times for sexual offenses and spending time in treatment for pedophilia.

He also said he had been abandoned in a restaurant by his birth mother when he was 8.

His adopted mother gave a statement to authorities imploring Roll to sentence him to life.

She wrote that he was obsessed with oral sex with very young boys and that she feared what he might do next. She also said she was in fear for her life because he had a history of hitting people, including his grandfather.

In 2005, Snowden was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Upshur County involving a 1-year-old. Snowden was 15 at the time.

He also threatened a woman’s life who reported him for plotting to break in to a neighbor’s house to molest their son. He testified he was “banned” from the county because he kept getting in to trouble.

Snowden later moved to Houston where he lived on the streets.

Since then, he has twice pleaded guilty to prostitution charges and twice been found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender.

‘A true predator’

In asking for leniency, Snowden said he was not taking his medication on the day of the attack. He also said he had attempted suicide at least five times because of remorse.

Assistant Harris County District Attorney Maritza Antu said Snowden admitted to investigators that he taught himself how to hack computers to feed his “addiction” to child pornography.

“He will do anything to sexually gratify himself,” Antu said. “That is a true predator.”

Identity Theft Robin Dawn Finger Pleaded Guilty

A 43-year-old St. Paul woman, who was a former employee of the Minnesota Board of Psychology, pleaded guilty Thursday, June 21, to aiding an identity theft ring by stealing clients’ personal information.

Robin Dawn Finger pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. She admitted in her plea agreement that during 2010, she worked at the Board of Psychology as a receptionist and used her access to people’s names, dates of birth and bank account information to assist the scheme.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Finger entered her plea in federal court in St. Paul. Court papers say she fed client information to a large-scale ID theft ring that stole $2 million from financial institutions and retail businesses in at least 14 states. Her co-conspirators used her information to make counterfeit checks and fraudulent IDs.

Finger faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison for the conspiracy charge, and two years for identity theft.

Fourteen co-conspirators already have entered guilty pleas in the scheme, and 10 have pleaded not guilty. Their trial is scheduled for Aug. 20.

Missing Person Daniel Wise

According to everyone we spoke with who knew Daniel Wise, a Madison native, nothing was wrong with him. He was going to Madison College and looking forward to transferring to the UW. He’d just gotten back from a cruise with his grandparents, brother and other family members. He never gave any indication that something was wrong. So when he didn’t come home from work yesterday everyone close to him immediately started to wonder, where is Daniel?

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Doug Wise, Daniel’s father says, ” Come home. If he’s depressed or needs help our arms are open. ”

Emotions flowed out of the family of 21-year-old Daniel Wise. His father, mother and brother were joined by friends downtown Wednesday to hang fliers. All of them say they just wanted Daniel to come home.

Donna, Daniel’s mother says, ” It’s very scary because we love Dan and we just want him to be by us. We just want to know where he is. It’s just out his character and he always answers me back and he always texts me and tells me he loves me. So we just want Dan back with us.”

Tyler Juelich thought he was the last person to see Daniel. Juelich is staying with Wise and his roommate Brian at their North Bedford Street apartment. He says Wise got up, showered and left for work as planned Wednesday morning.

Juelich says, ” It didn’t seem like he was around the house trying to get essential items or anything. It just seemed like a normal day. He left on time.”

Tyler may not have seen him last. Someone or something may have gotten a glimpse of Daniel after Tyler. According to his friends and family Daniel or some one with access to his checking account took out $300 from his account. His roommate, Brian Martin, says it’s not like Wise to carry that amount of cash.

” That’s really unusual. He usually has some cash with him but it’s usually about $20 if not less. It’s just like some food money. ”

There’s at least one more strange fact about Daniel’s disappearance.
Wise apparently left his phone at his apartment when he left for work on Wednesday morning. His mother says that is definitely not like him.

” The next day I texted him in the morning about just some school, FAFSA stuff and I didn’t hear back from him. Then I contacted his brother and said have you heard from him and he said no. ”

Insurance Fraud Fur Coat

Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly has filed fraud charges against a Delaware County woman who allegedly submitted a bogus home owner’s insurance claim “over the loss of her mink coat.”

Which is rather creative, as far as these scams go. Anyway, it didn’t turn out well for Samiha Guirguis.

Kelly says Guirguis, 59, of Havertown, placed a mink coat – with her name sewn into it – at a storage facility in King of Prussia in 2005 and was provided a receipt showing the value of the coat was $1,000. In 2009, Guirguis went to retrieve the coat, but claimed that it wasn’t her fur. (Keep in mind, her name is monogrammed inside).

Guirguis allegedly provided an altered receipt from the storage facility claiming it was worth $10,000, and another altered receipt from Macy’s. Then, Kelly said, she made a claim for her supposedly $10,388 coat under her home owner’s policy and denied having made any prior claims in connection with the coat.

Authorities say Guirguis, who is charged with forgery, insurance fraud and theft, tried to run a similar scam on another fur-storage facility in 2001. The owner of that facility told investigators that he later learned that Guirguis had complained to the Consumer Affairs Section of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Arson Investigation Dollarama

Windsor police say they have scientific proof that a fire at Dollarama in east Windsor was deliberately set.

As CBC first reported in April, fire officials suspected the $4 million blaze was an arson.

Now Windsor Police have confirmed this, and are expected to give details at a news conference later today.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Fire destroyed the dollar store and several businesses in the East Park Mall on Tecumseh Road near Lauzon Parkway on April 9.

The blaze also put many lives at risk including customers, people who work there and firefighters.

Police say the fire started on a shelf in one of the aisles while the store was open and say there is scientific proof that points to arson.
