Tooba Yahya has private investigator find out who saw daughters deaths

KINGSTON, ONT. A woman accused of killing her three daughters and her husband’s other wife over family honour indicated Wednesday she believes her eldest son witnessed the four plunging to their certain deaths, but didn’t call police.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

For this, Tooba Yahya said, she is “upset” with her son.

Yahya, 42, her husband Mohammad Shafia, 58, and their son Hamed, 21, are on trial, charged with murder in the deaths of Hamed’s three sisters and Shafia’s first wife in a polygamous marriage. The Crown alleges the June 30, 2009, deaths were so-called honour killings, and that the family staged it to look like an accident.

The three accused claimed from the start in police interviews that the deaths must have been a joy ride gone wrong, because the eldest daughter, Zainab, borrowed the car keys from her parents at a Kingston motel around 2 a.m. The Crown alleges that story is false, that the four were killed before the rest of the family checked into the motel.

But several months after their July 2009 arrests, Hamed told a private investigator a new version of events.

What really happened, he said, was that he saw the four get into the car at the motel, so he hopped in the family’s Lexus SUV to follow them, concerned for their safety because Zainab didn’t have a licence. They ended up at the locks of a canal, where he accidentally rear-ended them, he said. He was starting to pick up the pieces of the SUV’s headlight when the car, trying to turn around, drove over the ledge into the canal, he said.

Hamed said he sounded the horn of the Lexus one time to signal for help, then dangled a rope into the water to see if anyone grabbed hold of it. Seeing no signs of life, he drove home to Montreal and told no one of the deaths.

This is not what the Crown alleges happened — this new story, they note, came after all the police evidence was disclosed to the private investigator, who had developed a fervent belief in the family’s innocence. But Yahya indicated on the stand Wednesday she is adopting it as fact.

“I am upset with Hamed and my heart is bleeding,” she said. “He should have told me how my children’s death was.”

The Crown alleges the pieces of headlight, a key piece of evidence at the trial, were at the scene because the car did not drop smoothly into the canal, but got hung up on the ledge, and the SUV was used to push it the rest of the way.

Yahya’s testimony, that she believes her son was present for the deaths of his sisters and the woman who was like a mother to him, came on a day of intense, pointed and methodical cross-examination by Crown attorney Gerard Laarhuis.

Yahya has been on the stand for three full days, and cross-examination is set to continue Thursday. The duration of the trial was apparent Wednesday, with the plodding exchanges between Laarhuis and Yahya, an exhausted-looking jury, about a dozen defence objections and even a sharp retort from the otherwise amiable judge.

The trial, which started Oct. 20, is expected to wrap up some time this month.

Yahya, Shafia and Hamed have each pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder.

Corey Feldman Hires Studio Bodyguard

When you hit the heady heights of, well, Dancing On Ice, life in the spotlight can get so wild that the contestants need some extra help and Goonies star Corey Feldman is the first to assign himself a new bodyguard to fend off over zealous female fans.

http://liarcatchers.com/executive_protection.html

The Hollywood beefcake used to work as part of Madonna’s security team but his new manic Dancing On Ice lifestyle is proving too much for him to deal with alone.

Corey has enlisted the help of elite bodyguard Dre who is so good that he only goes by one name

.

Speaking to the Daily Star, a source said: “Dre follows Corey everywhere. He’s become quite a fixture backstage. Everyone loves him.

“Though we’re not quite sure why he’s needed. Corey may have starred in loads of films but he could probably walk round Elstree and no-one would realise who he is.”

Ouch!

Corey, who takes to the ice for the first time this weekend, may even have to add yet another bodyguard to his staff as he is hoping to bust out some pretty impressive moves including the moonwalk.

He said: “I’m secretly working on it but I don’t know if they are going to let me do it.

“A lot of it comes down to whether they can get the rights to the music.

“The fact that I am friends with the Jackson family may help.

“I’d love to skate to Billie Jean as well.”

Body Guard loses his life in the line of duty

LONDON — A bomber on a motorcycle killed a scientist from Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment site and his bodyguard-driver on Wednesday during the morning commute in Tehran, Iranian media reported, in an assassination that could further elevate international tensions over the Iranian nuclear program and stoke the country’s growing anti-Western belligerence.

http://liarcatchers.com/executive_protection.html

It was the fourth such attack reported in two years and, as after the previous episodes, Iranian officials said they believed that the United States and Israel were responsible.

Iranian news accounts said the suspected assassin had attached a magnetized explosive device to the scientist’s car and escaped during the rush hour in northern Tehran. News photographs from the scene showed a car, a Peugeot 405, draped in a pale blue tarp being lifted onto a truck. Some photographs published by Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency showed what it said was the body of the scientist still inside the car. The head was covered with a white cloth.

The scientist was identified as Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32, a professor at a technical university in Tehran, and a department supervisor at the Natanz uranium enrichment plant — one of two known sites where Western leaders suspect Iranian scientists are advancing toward the creation of a nuclear weapon.

The Mehr news agency said the explosion took place on Gol Nabi street, on the scientist’s route to work, at 8:20 a.m. The news agency said he was employed at the Natanz site as the director of commercial affairs.

Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but is facing a growing battery of international sanctions intended to force it to halt its enrichment program and negotiate with the West. On Jan. 23, European Union foreign ministers are to discuss a possible oil export embargo, adding further pressure.

Despite those pressures, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said it would not be diverted from its pursuit of nuclear technology. “America and Israel’s heinous act will not change the course of the Iranian nation,” it said in a statement quoted by Reuters.

The semiofficial Fars news agency, which has close links to the powerful Revolutionary Guards Corps, said the Wednesday bombing resembled the methods used in attacks in November 2010 against two other nuclear specialists — Majid Shahriari, who was killed, and Fereydoon Abbasi, who survived and is now in charge of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.

Almost exactly two years ago in January 2010, a physics professor, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, was also assassinated in Tehran.

Iran blamed Israel and the United States for the attacks in 2010, and the latest killing is bound to deepen an embattled mood in Tehran as the country’s divided leaders approach parliamentary elections in March. News of the blast emerged quickly on Iran’s state-run media.

“The bomb was a magnetic one and the same as the ones previously used for the assassination of the scientists and is the work of the Zionists,” Fars quoted Tehran’s deputy governor, Safar Ali Baratlou, as saying, reflecting a suspicion that the West and its allies were waging a covert war.

Theodore Karasik, a security expert at the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis in Dubai, said the assassination fit a pattern over the past two years of covert operations by the West and its allies to “degrade and delay” Iran’s nuclear program.

In a telephone interview, Mr. Karasik said other elements of the Western campaign included the deployment of a computer virus known as Stuxnet and the sale of doctored computer software to hamper the enrichment program.

He said magnetic bombs were used in covert operations, describing them as “clean, easy and efficient.”

In recent days, several events have combined to create the deepest tension with the United States since the Islamic revolution in 1979 and the subsequent seizure of hostages at the American Embassy in Tehran.

Last weekend, Iran’s top nuclear official said the country was about to start production at its second major uranium enrichment site, in a defiant declaration that its nuclear program would continue despite the sanctions.

The announcement came two months after the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations nuclear oversight body based in Vienna, published a report that Iranian scientists had engaged in secret and possibly continuing efforts to construct a nuclear weapon.

The imminent opening of the site — the Fordo plant, near the city of Qum — confronted the United States and its allies with difficult choices about how far to go to limit Iran’s nuclear abilities. The new plant is buried deep underground on a well-defended military site and is considered far more resistant to airstrikes than the existing enrichment site at Natanz, limiting what Israeli officials, in particular, consider an important deterrent to Iran’s nuclear aims.

Mother does background check on coach

MEDFORD, Ore. — A mother is making accusations against her son’s community basketball league. She says the coaches aren’t checked out before they’re allowed to be around kids.

http://liarcatchers.com/background_checks.html

“I feel as if I’ve been lied to, I’ve been mislead at the expense of the safety of my child and everyone else’s,” Alicia Hintemeyer said.

It started as a confrontation at her son’s game with one of the coaches, Roman Lacey, which raised red flags for Hintemeyer.

She did some background checks of her own on Lacey, pulling up past charges which include DUII, open container in vehicle offense and driving while suspended. News10 confirmed those charges.

“It’s a feeling of absolute fear, what if, what if he drove my son to practice intoxicated, what if my child was hurt,” Hintemeyer said.

The Amateur Athletic Union says full background checks are mandatory for employees who have contact with children.

“I’m concerned there are other coaches that have slipped through the cracks and we don’t know what’s going on behind close doors,” she said. “I’m really here to advocate for the kids and the safety of our kids, it’s really important to me.”

The AAU said Lacey is the head of the Central Point division. News10 spoke with Lacey and he says he will be telling his side of the story Wednesday on News10.

Kobe Bryant wife had him followed for years

You all know Kobe Bryant right? That famous basket baller who has been compared to the legendary Michael Jordan in his style of play… Well, Bryant could have a turbulent 2012, not on the basketball courts, but in his marriage.

http://liarcatchers.com/cheating_spouses.html

Vanessa Bryant, wife to the famous basket baller, is divorcing him on grounds of infidelity. She estimates that during their 10-year marriage, Kobe could have cheated on her with 105 women. That’s approximately 10 women for each year they were married!

But that’s not the mouth-gaping bit to this story. According to news reports, Vanessa knew about Bryant’s philandering ways years back but she decided to play the fool. She hired a private detective for years who gave her the ammunition she would use against the basket baller during her divorce battles in court.

In other words, Vanessa lied to her husband for years that all was fine, yet she hated him, despised his character and possibly wondered how on earth she ended up with a sex addict for a husband! She did that for years. Boy what a pyscho-like marriage that was, don’t you think?

Vanessa’s situation mirrors many women’s situations here in Uganda. The husband is a dog, and she hates him with a passion (or to “tone down the language”), she “tolerates” his ways, that includes coming home late from I don’t know where, to his philandering ways. Somehow these women stay in their marriages!

It even gets a little depressing when these women tend to accept their situation, giving a million and one excuses as to why they stand the nonsense. “So long as he pays school fees for our children, it’s fine,” they say. “I already have two children with him, so for the sake of stability in the home and for my child’s sake, I decide to stay!” she moans.
So we have these dysfunctional marriages that limp on for decades, with each party pretending or psyching themselves into some artificial marriage bliss of sorts. How disturbing!

How does one pretend that they are happy in an arrangement that gives them total sadness, the kind that gets embedded deep in your heart? How does a husband settle for a cheating wife just for the sake of maintaining the status quo that if shaken, he believes would cause irreparable damage to him and the family?

Culture, the lack of money, religion and a fear for risk are the main reasons. Kalumba can’t leave wifey because according to culture Y, it’s a taboo to do so. When Kalumba attempts to go to church to address the problem, his pastor (with a smile) will point at all kinds of verses in the Bible that make it a sin to leave wifey.
When Kalumba decides to go it alone, he is halted in his tracks when he quickly calculates the school fees of the five children they have, amounting to a ga-zillion shillings every term…and that’s minus rent, fuel and food costs. So what does Kalumba do? He resorts to night prayers and as a zealot Christian, his main prayer request always is, “Lord please save my marriage.” Sigh.

You see marriage is a bitter sweet pill. And no one can stand up and claim to have a PhD in how to have bliss in it. But you don’t have to be Einstein to figure out a dangerous marriage. What even beats me is that at times, dangerous streaks like wife beating, drunkenness and womanising can be spotted in someone during the dating phase, but somehow that couple get married. Then five years down the road, the woman is bemoaning his womanising! Why in God’s name did you marry him?

The more we tolerate mad-like marriages, the more we give our children a distorted view about the institution. The more we tolerate the beatings, the more we give our daughters a wrong understanding of the word submission. The more we tolerate his drunkenness, the more we give our sons a flawed meaning of what it means to be a man.

So what should we do?

Well let me tell you what Vanessa Bryant did. Her and her hubby got married in California. And according to the California divorce law, the wife is entitled to half of Kobe’s massive fortune if the marriage has lasted 10 years and more. Vanessa filed for divorce in the tenth year of the marriage and she now stands to earn, according to news reports, more than $150m!

Julia Loretta Graham of Detroit was arrested for identity theft

TRENTON — A 61-year-old woman was arraigned Friday on five charges of fraud and identify theft for writing checks in another woman’s identity and making fake licenses.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Julia Loretta Graham of Detroit was arrested and arraigned after a 43-year-old Trenton woman filed an identity theft complaint Dec. 29, telling police that $3,000 had been used in checks in her name.

By the time Graham was arrested, she had used checks totaling $6,000 in the Trenton woman’s name.

Graham was arraigned before 33rd District Court Judge Michael McNally.

She was charged with three counts of uttering and publishing, each a 14-year felony.

She also was charged with identify theft, a five-year felony, and possession of a stolen insurance certificate, a five-year felony.

She is being charged as a habitual offender because she has been convicted of crimes three prior times.

McNally set her bond at $75,000/10 percent. A preliminary examination of the evidence against her is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 17.

Graham used the checks at several stores, according to police. She made a fake license with her picture and the name of the other woman to use with the checks.

Graham told police she made all of the items herself, using the Internet to get the other woman’s personal information. Continued…

Graham used the checks at Pearle Vision in Warren, an eye-care facility, police said. She had to return to pick up a pair of glasses and Trenton police arrested her at the business.

Detective Sgt. Mark Enright said Graham explained to police the process she went through to make the fake checks and IDs.

$350,000 missing Ring case solved by Private Investigator

A cleaner has arrested and charged with grand theft after a diamond ring valued at $350,000 went missing from a house she was working in.
Cody Mejias, 26, is accused of taking the ring from the home of Robert Hill in Stuart, Florida.
She allegedly sold the ring to a pawn shop for $4,800 and told police she needed the money to feed her children.

http://liarcatchers.com/employee_investigations.html

But before the police got involved the Hill family called in top Florida private investigator John Milano, ABC News reports.
He carried out polygraphs tests which, he said, Mejias failed.
Mr Milano said that after the tests, Mejias was avoiding him.
He said: ‘I hunted her down. She refused to come in so we had to get police involved.’
The ring was traced to Jensen Beach Jewelers which is owned by Charles Sarullo.
Mr Sarullo said Mejias had sold him the ring for $4,800.
Mr Milano called Mr Sarullo and said that he returned the ring he would give him the $5,000
The Martin County arrest affidavit states: ‘According to Sarullo, Mejias came in on 12/22/11 and stated she received a diamond ring as an inheritance from a recently deceased aunt.’
Police seized the ring and arrested Mejias who allegedly confessed that she stole it while cleaning the Hill residence.
The affidavit said: ‘Mejias was apologetic and stated she needed the money to feed her children.’
‘Mejias advised the money she retrieved from the transaction was used for food, gas, Christmas gifts and bills.’
Mejias, who is being held on a $20,000 bond, also wrote the the Hills and apologized.
Milano said the ring is unusual. He said: ‘The main stone is an oddity, a 10.38-carat emerald-cut diamond. The side diamonds are also one carat each and kite-shaped, which is an unusual

Ann Arbor Michigan allows residents to report online

Residents can now report some crimes to police using a recently launched online reporting system, the city announced Monday.

http://liarcatchers.com/crime_scene_investigator.html

This means residents will no longer need to drive downtown and visit the Ann Arbor Police Department to report certain minor crimes. It will save time for both residents and the department, which can focus more resources on urgent matters.

The system can be found on the department’s Web site. The system will be available 24 hours a day.

The types of crimes that can be reported online typically don’t require an interview with police or follow up investigation. Often it will be in cases where filing a report is necessary insurance claims.

Residents can report harassing phone calls, theft, vandalism, identity theft, lost or damaged property, and traffic crashes on private property. Theft and vandalism can be reported online when there are no witnesses to the incident.

According to the department Web site, in most cases these reports will not be investigated. The report documents an incident has been reported to police.

Residents reporting a traffic crash will need to provide vehicle registration and proof of insurance information. Residents reporting credit card fraud or stolen identity will need all account information.

The online reporting system asks residents to confirm the incident being reported occurred within the boundaries of Ann Arbor. Address and map tools are provided to determine if this is the case.

New hours for certain areas of the Police Department are in effect, including records, detective bureau administrative office, property unit and police payroll. These areas are closed on Fridays. Hours are now 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, except when closed on city government holidays.
