Identity Theft South Florida Officer Facing Charges

A South Florida police officer is facing federal fraud charges.

The FBI arrested Sweetwater detective William Garcia on Wednesday. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reports that Garcia is charged using a counterfeit access device and aggravated identity theft.

Authorities say Garcia participated in a counterfeit credit card scheme in late 2010 through 2011. Garcia’s criminal activities reportedly included using his own credit card to make fraudulent credit cards, hiding evidence when a co-conspirator was arrested and ultimately possessing and using counterfeit cards that Garcia claimed had been seized during the course of his duties.

Garcia’s arrest comes just weeks after Sweetwater Mayor Manuel Marono was arrested and charged in an unrelated kickback scheme involving federal grants.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Garcia had an attorney.

Wrongful Death Laurel County Man Facing Charges for Mercy Kill of Wife

A Laurel county man is facing murder charges after sheriff’s deputies say he shot and killed his wife early Wednesday morning.

Virginia Chumbley’s body was found in a home on Greenlawn Subdivision Road. Her husband, Ernest Chumbley, spoke with LEX18 from jail and explained why he did it. He said it was her final wish that he kill her and put her out of her misery.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Chumbley admitted to killing his wife, but said he was just doing what she asked him to do.

“She told me to end the pain, stop the pain,” said Ernest Chumbley.

From the Laurel county jail, Chumbley said through tears he killed his wife.

“Did I want to do it? For her I did. No, I don’t. I didn’t want to do it,” he said.

It happened at their home on Greenlawn Subdivision around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies say Ernest called 911 after shooting his wife.

911 Call:
Operator: “Hello”
Ernest: “Yes, I’ve shot my wife,”

His defense is that it was a mercy killing. He says Virginia has been fighting cancer for several years now.

“She mentioned hospice and all that, she didn’t want that,” Ernest said. “I loved her. I love her, and she took it as far as she wanted to go.”

And although they were shocked, a neighbor had the same reaction when we told them the news.
“The only reason I could think he shot her is she probably asked him to, because she was hurting so bad,” said Stan Campbell.

Now, Ernest says, the only comfort he has, is that he granted her last wish,

“She isn’t in pain no more. She’s a good woman, a good woman…” he said.

Chumbley is facing murder charges, meanwhile funeral arragements for his wife are still pending. Virginia Chumbley’s body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.

Identity Theft Man is Charged in Denville, NJ

A Brooklyn resident charged with identity theft stole more than $11,000 from a victim’s account before an alert teller rejected an attempt to withdraw more and set police on his case, police said.

On Monday, police were called to the TD Bank on Route 53 for a report of a person trying to withdraw money from an account of another person.

The suspect had tried to use a fraudulent New York driver’s license with his own photograph and the victim’s personal information on it but an alert teller would not make the transaction and the suspect fled the bank before police arrived, police said.

During the subsequent investigation, LifeLock, a credit card and identity theft protection company, notified the victim that someone was trying to open an account in his name at the Best Buy in East Hanover, police said. The victim, who lives in Staten Island, immediately contacted police in Denville who in turn contacted East Hanover police and requested they respond to the store, police said.

An East Hanover police officer did respond to the store and observed the suspect, William Payne, leaving the store so they placed him under arrest, police said.

Police also learned that Payne had been to several banks in north Jersey and had been able to withdraw $11,000 from the victim’s bank account, police said.

Payne was charged with impersonation, theft of identity, criminal attempt and uttering false government documents. His bail was set at $25,000.

Missing Person Body of Skowhegan, Maine Man Found

A Maine State Police K-9 unit has found a body, and it is assumed to be that of a local man missing since Friday, according to Maine Warden Service Lt. Kevin Adam.

Trooper Shawn Porter discovered the body at around noon Tuesday, said Adam.

Vaughn Giggey, 40, of Skowhegan was last heard from about 10 p.m. Friday, when he left his Main Street home to walk to the Chamberlain Street home of his mother, Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais said on Monday.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“He was found in an area right in the middle of town we suspected Vaughn might be,” Adam said early Tuesday afternoon, adding that the body was found near Redington-Fairview General Hospital.

“It seems to be him,” Blais said Tuesday evening.

The positive identification won’t be known until the body is examined at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta, Adam said.

At this point, the death does not seem suspicious, said Blais.

“It kind of looked like he fell down to a ravine or creek,” he said. “It’s a nasty, heavily wooded area [where he was found].”

Skowhegan detectives will back track and investigate the circumstance of Giggey’s death.

“We have a lot of work to do,” said Blais. “We’ll look at ‘What was his state [of condition]?’ Toxicology reports take a long time.”

Brandy Remmers, Giggey’s girlfriend, reported him missing at 9 a.m. Sunday, Blais said on Monday.

“He was going to walk to his mom’s house, which is only a few blocks away. He never made it there,” said Blais.
