Pedophile Tracking Repeat Offender Gets 20 Years in Elizabethtown, PA

Nothing has been an effective deterrent for a former Hershey School teacher repeatedly found guilty of collecting and trafficking in child pornography, federal prosecutors said.

During the last 17 years, David Husmann, 53, has been labeled a sex offender, “successfully” completed court-ordered sex offender treatment, and served several prison sentences for his pornographic predilections.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

But he’s unlikely to be repeating the offenses any time soon.

Today, the Elizabethtown man was sentenced to 20 years for his fourth conviction involving crimes against children.

Husmann was on supervised release in 2011, when his probation officer made an unannounced visit to his home. Husmann’s mother showed the probation officer to Husmann’s basement bedroom where the official caught Husmann actively watching “child erotica,” said a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger.

Investigators found thousands of photos of pre-pubescent girls in sexually explicit poses on Husmann’s computer. Several of those girls had been abused and later identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Husmann’s criminal career began in 1995 when he was convicted of three counts of cruelty to animals. While he was abusing animals, he was also abusing children, according to court documents.

Husmann and his wife were house-parents in charge of supervising several girls at the exclusive Hershey School in Dauphin County. Between September 1995 and March 1996, Husmann downloaded porn onto a school computer and showed it to eight of the girls who lived in his house. During the same time frame, Husmann assaulted two of the girls. He was eventually convicted of indecent assault and labeled as a sex-offender.

He moved to Florida to serve a probationary sentence. In 2002, he returned to Lancaster County to live with his mother and failed to register as a sex-offender. All the while, he continued to trade child porn.

For failing to register as a sex offender, he was sentenced to 51 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

After serving his federal prison time, he returned to his mother’s house and again began collecting and trading child porn. It was during this time that the probation officer dropped in unexpectedly.

In a statement made to the court, one of the victims said:

Pictures of me and my sister are all over the world on the Internet. There is nothing we can do about it now except find the people with them and give them great punishment…. It is very troubling knowing that our pictures are still out there for nasty, sick, perverts to look at. I don’t see how somebody can do that and not feel horrible about it. The pictures they are looking at are of real people. People like me and my sister.

Husmann was one of the first of several cases of sexual impropriety to emerge from the Hershey School. The school is the nation’s biggest and wealthiest boarding school for needy students, with $7.5 billion in assets and an enrollment of 1,850.

In Oct. 2011, another house-parent was found guilty of possessing 700 images and 40 videos of child pornography.

In 2010, the school settled claims of five former students who said they had been sexually abused by a serial molester who gained access to the campus through his mother, a part-time house parent.

In 2007, a part-time instructor was fired after he admitted to having sex with a 16-year-old female student.

In 2006, an English teacher was arrested and later fired after she pleaded no-contest to a charge of corrupting a minor.

Identity Theft Small Businesses Targeted Online

It’s important to protect your personal identity from thieves, but one Minnesota business owner found out the hard way that brands can also be targeted through social media scams.

Over the past eight years, Maria Crane has worked hard to build her business, the Lazy Star Horse Company.

“I do kids’ camps, leasing,” she explained. “I sell tack gear and horse supplies.”

For Crane, teaching children how to ride and train horses is a lot easier than trying to track down the crooks trying to ride roughshod over her company’s good name.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

“It was kind of mind-blowing,” she admitted. “Don’t expect someone to take advantage of someone through a program that is about kids and horses and doing good.”

According to Crane, it all began last month after a client asked to become friends with her business Facebook page — but Crane never got the friend request. In fact, when she typed the name of her business into Google, she found someone else had created a fake profile complete with pictures and links to her actual website.

That fake Facebook profile also contained a plea to donate to Crane’s horse rehab program, but the funds went to someone else’s bank account.

“I work so hard for these horses and it would be sad to see someone take a contribution and have it not end up here,” she said.

Crane isn’t the only business owner left to try to rein in her online reputation. Dan Hendrickson, with the Better Business Bureau, told FOX 9 News commercial ID theft is becoming a more common problem for small business owners who may not notice they’ve been targeted until they hear from angry customers who believe they bought goods and services through a legitimate website.

“What scammers have figured out is, rather than an individual where they make a small score, they can make a big hit and some real money,” Hendrickson said.

Crane got Facebook to take down the fake profile within a couple of days, but she still doesn’t know who set it up or if any of her customers got taken for a ride. Now, she hopes online shoppers and philanthropists will be a bit more wary.

“My big message is: Do the research,” she urged. “When you are making a contribution or donating to a program, contact the program and speak to the individuals. Make sure the money is going where you think it is.”

For fellow business owners, she also has some advice.

“Google your name. Take steps to be proactive. If something happens, be ready to jump on it and get ahead of it because it’s a big problem,” she said.

Wrongful Death No Charges for Fatal Shooting by 4 Year Old in AZ

Authorities aren’t expected to seek charges in the death of an Arizona man who was accidentally shot by his 4-year-old son.

Justin Stanfield Thomas was fatally shot Friday after he and his son traveled from Phoenix to a friend’s home 90 miles away in the northern Arizona community of Prescott Valley for a surprise visit.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Prescott Valley Police Brandon Bonney says the boy found the loaded gun in the home within minutes of arrival, asked a question about it and pulled the trigger.

Thomas later died at a hospital.

Bonney says the gun should have been locked away, but that Thomas’ friend, whose identity hasn’t been released, was caught off guard by the unannounced visit.

No children lived in the house.

The child is now with his mother.

Wrongful Death Lexington Man Killed in Beating

Police continue to investigate the beating death of a man in Lexington over the weekend.

Tommy Crawford, 45, was found dead in a field near the intersection of Newtown Road and Georgetown Road late Saturday night. He was severely beaten, and the coroner says he died of blunt force trauma.

Cindy Crawford said her brother had a drinking problem and sometimes got into fights, but even so, he didn’t deserve a violent death.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“He liked to sing. Be silly. Laugh a lot,” she said. “Nobody deserves to be hurt, or beat, or anything like that, because we’re all human, you know? And we just want this to be solved and for them to get the person who did it.”

Family members say they plan to hold a vigil for Tommy Crawford at Triangle Park Monday night.

Missing Person Body of Missing Teacher Found

The body of missing teacher Terrilyn Monette was found today in her car, which was discovered submerged in a Louisiana bayou, New Orleans officials said today.

Monette’s body was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, according to ABC News affiliate WGNO-TV in New Orleans.

Monette, 26, has been missing since March, when she was last seen leaving a popular bar early in the morning hours. No suspects have been named in connection with her disappearance.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Her family, based in Long Beach, Calif., have been traveling to New Orleans for months in an attempt to bring more attention to her disappearance. On Friday they held a prayer vigil and asked that the FBI be brought in to handle the case.

Previously Monette’s mother, Toni Enclade, had asked authorities to widen the search to a national level to find her daughter.

Today divers revisited a bayou that had already been searched, after sonar picked up an object in the water. A diver confirmed there was a car with a body inside of it in the water, according to The Associated Press.

State Rep. Austin Badon, who helped to organize many of the underwater searches in the area, was also there.

“It was not the outcome we had looked for, but we did find her. It allowed the family to have some sense of relief and closure,” Badon told WGNO-TV.

After hearing that the car was being pulled out, Monette’s family gathered to watch as the teacher’s car was pulled to dry land.

“I don’t understand why it took them so long to find her car,” Enclade told The Times-Picayune. “This is supposedly one of the first places they would have checked. I’m just overwhelmed. It doesn’t make sense.”

At the time of her disappearance, Monette had recently become a second-grade teacher at the Woodland West Elementary school in Jefferson Parish.

called in by a citizen as abandoned on Hwy 238, near the Jackson County

considering that at some point Cook abandoned his truck which was later
stolen. The case remains under investigation.
