Wrongful Death Lee County Murder Suspect Has Killed Before

Melvin Slone, the man charged in the killing of a Lee County woman, actually knew the victim and he’s killed before.

Hollar was found at dead April 11 at her home in Beattyville. Investigators said Hollar was fatally shot then her body was left in the burning trailer.

The 55-year-old Slone wasn’t a stranger to the 79 year old.

He even went to the local paper to tell writers how generous she was and how she loaned him money. His name was even mentioned in the article about her killing and now Slone is charged with her murder.

Friends of Hollar believe her generosity may have gotten the best of her when she gave him money.

“She didn’t deserve that she was a wonderful lady,” victim’s friend Mildred Ross said. “Generous with everyone she knew.”

The arrest warrant states he fired a 9mm pistol, striking her face and was seen on video walking toward her residence 30 minutes before the fire.

Another friend of Hollar, who didn’t want to be on camera, said Hollar was afraid of someone but she didn’t know who.

“I thought about the guy she told me about but I’m not sure it was him,” she said.

The friend said she was playing cards with Hollar an hour and a half before the fire at Hollar’s home.

A cold blooded killing that is eerily similar to a murder Slone and another man committed before.

The pair committed the offense of Capitol Murder by shooting Herman McIntosh with a piston inside his Lee County trailer in 1979.

Court documents show they robbed him of $30.

Slone’s been in and out of prison and last paroled in 2012.

A judge set Slone’s bond at $1 million Thursday, stating he is a danger to others.
