Fraud Investigation Doctor in Connection to Eric Conn Fraud Case Found Guilty

As the FBI searches for his co-conspirator on the run, the trial of Dr. Bradley Adkins has ended with a guilty conviction in a Lexington federal court.

Adkins was convicted of rubber stamping mental evaluations for ex-lawyer Eric C. Conn’s clients in a scheme that defrauded the government out of millions. The investigation alleged that Conn wrote medical reports and paid Adkins to approve them without conducting a physical exam of the patients. Judge David B. Daugherty was also accused of approving Conn’s cases for Social Security disability payouts without scrutiny.

The disability benefits of over 900 eastern Kentucky residents represented by Conn were frozen pending a review by the Social Security Administration.

EKB reports that Conn and Daugherty each reached deals with the government to plead guilty to other charges, leaving Adkins as the last remaining defendant.

Last week, the FBI confirmed that Conn had fled.

Two people whose social security benefits were cut off committed suicide.

Adkins was ordered to be held in jail following the decision. He will be formally sentenced in September.

The investigation began around 8 p.m. Sunday and continued into Monday morning. The scene is located on Dogwood Lane near Woodland Avenue, not far from the state capitol building.

Dean’s sister tells LEX 18 that Kirsten Dean loved her son Jaxton more than anything. She says that her family is in shock.

Police are telling LEX 18 that this is not being called a murder-suicide. They say that Kirsten may have found her son unresponsive in the tub and out of grief took her own life.

Neighbors are shaken up and sad for the family.

“I just don’t think you think at that time. It’s just so horrible. It’s the worst thing of ever seen in my life; seeing that little boy laying there not breathing,” said Maggie McKnight, who witnessed the scene.

The neighbors say that the woman who lives in the apartment took Kirsten and Jaxton in just a short time ago.

Relatives of Kirsten and Jaxton said that their family was already going through a lot. Kirsten’s sister tells LEX 18 that they had recently lost another sibling.
