Identity Theft 2 Salem Residents Arrested

Two Salem residents were arrested for ID theft and other charges at a Howard Johnson motel, 2250 Mission St. SE, about 4 p.m. Friday, Salem police said.

Officers found Karey Phillips, 37, of Salem and Reyna Velasco, 27, of Salem at the motel after they learned both had warrants for arrest in relation to ID theft.

When officers tried to contact the suspects in the motel, neither responded. Police then obtained a warrant to make entry into their hotel room, said Salem police Lt. Jim Aguilar.

Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

Detectives also found sufficient evidence of other crimes inside the motel room and subsequently reapplied for other search warrants, Aguilar said.

Phillips was arrested on charges of parole violation, ID theft and hindering, and Velasco was arrested on charges of ID theft and hindering.

Both were taken to Marion County jail. Police are continuing the investigation.
