Private Detective Drug Bust in Madison County Investigation

Two people were arrested Tuesday after a detective working on an investigation spotted a a suspect who had an active warrant for drug trafficking.

The incident began at about 3 p.m. when Madison County Sheriff’s Office detectives were working on an investigation in the area of Southern Hills in Richmond. Detectives were in the area of Villa Drive when a detective spotted a suspect who had an active warrant for drug trafficking. The suspect, Shawnta Patterson, saw the detective and fled on foot and the officers gave chase. Patterson ran inside of an apartment on Villa Drive, where he was apprehended in the apartment along with Leon Benson.

Benson, 28, of Berea was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (Oxycodone), third-degree trafficking in controlled substance (Xanax) and possession of marijuana under eight ounces.

Patterson, 38, of Richmond was charged with a warrant for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (warrant was from Madison County). He was also charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (Oxycodone) and third-degree trafficking in controlled substance (Xanax).

Both are being held in the Madison County Detention Center.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says they seized approximately 215 Percocet tablets, 29 Xanax tablets and $1,900 in cash. Three flat screen TV’s were also recovered and charges are pending.

Police say the street value of the Percocet tablets are $5,000, and Xanax carry a street value of $ 200.
