Insurance Fraud NJ Public Adjuster Indicted After Sting

A New Jersey public insurance adjuster faces a number of felony insurance fraud-related counts following his indictment by a Mercer County grand jury.

Joseph Shammah, a 39-year-old West Long Branch, N.J., resident, is accused of trying to bilk some $15,000 from New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co. by submitting fraudulent insurance claims, the New Jersey attorney general’s office reports.

Shammah, who owns Northeast Claims Group, LLC, is charged with one fourth-degree count each of misconduct by a corporate official and false swearing, third-degree attempted theft by deception and second-degree insurance fraud.

The grand jury indicting Shammah acted on information obtained through a 2012 sting operation. It was conducted by the New Jersey insurance fraud prosecutor’s office and dubbed “Operation Home Makeover.”

Shammah could face up to 10 years in prison.
