Accident Reconstruction Georgetown Man Killed After Driver Ran Red Light

For the second time in just three days, a Georgetown person has died in a traffic accident in which, police say, a driver ran a red light.

Phillip Lee Burgess Jr., 28, was pronounced dead late Saturday night after a crash on Lemons Mill Road and McClelland Circle, according to the Scott County coroner.

Scott County Police tell LEX 18 that Burgess Jr. was the passenger of a car that ran a red light and was struck in the side by another car.

Johnny Ray Allen, 32, of Georgetown, was behind the wheel of the car that ran the red light, say police.

Allen was taken to UK Hospital for minor injuries and later charged with 2nd degree manslaughter and DUI.

Burgess Jr. was transported to Georgetown Community Hospital where he died of blunt force trauma to the upper body, says the county coroner.

Officials tell LEX 18 that those in the other car suffered minor injuries, but were not transported to the hospital.

An autopsy is still expected to be performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Funeral arrangements will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown.

Police say the investigation is on-going.
