An 85-year-old Chester County woman has been charged with insurance fraud after her son allegedly caused a fatal accident while driving her pickup truck, police said Wednesday.

The mother, Louise Landis, registered and insured a full-size Dodge Ram in her name and allowed her son, who had a poor driving record, to drive it, police said. The mother allegedly never drove the truck, even though she claimed in insurance papers to be the sole driver. Her son, Robert Landis, 50, is in jail awaiting trial on charges he allegedly caused a fatal wreck that killed motorcyclist Liam Crowley in Westtown Township in April. The Crowley family’s insurance claim was denied because Robert Landis was listed as an “excluded driver” on his mother’s insurance policy, police said. Louise Landis, of West Chester, was arrested by the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department. She faces one count of insurance fraud, a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to five years in prison. She is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
