Accident Reconstruction Lexington Police Id Man in Horrific Crash

Lexington Police say they’ve been able to use fingerprints to ID the man who wrapped himself around a pole Tuesday during a crash in downtown Lexington in which he was driving a stolen SUV.

Police aren’t releasing the 18-year-old’s name yet because his family hasn’t been notified.

The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. when a Lexington Police officer got behind an SUV that had been reported stolen. At the time, it was headed inbound on Versailles Road at Angliana, but as the officer relays in his talks with dispatch the way the man was driving made it a risk to the public to pursue any further.

The end result was a wreck on Maxwell Street and Upper Street, one of more horrific wrecks witnesses to it had ever seen.

While the driver was trying to flee police, he hit another SUV at the intersection and wrapped the stolen Acura around a telephone pole, splitting it. The suv then caught fire. Officers say the man suffered very serious injuries, and the woman in the other SUV was also banged up.
