Insurance Fraud Man Pleads Guilty in New Jersey

A former employee for a now-defunct Camden County construction company pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Mount Holly for his role — damaging South Jersey homes in order to then repair them and collect the insurance money — in a fraud scheme.

Marcin Gradziel, 34, of Lake Worth, Fla., who lived in Norristown, Pa., at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree insurance fraud before Judge Terrence Cook, who will sentence him Oct. 18, acting New Jersey Attorney General John J. Hoffman said.

Under the plea agreement, the state will recommend that Gradziel be sentenced to seven years in state prison.

“This defendant inflicted unnecessary damage to homes and caused an unwarranted financial burden on innocent homeowners,” Hoffman said in a statement Monday. “This office will continue to investigate and prosecute those who seek to take advantage of New Jersey homeowners for their own, selfish purposes.”

In pleading guilty, Gradziel admitted that in December 2010, acting on behalf of Precision Network Solutions, doing business as Precision Builders of Voorhees, he caused fraudulent insurance claims to be submitted to Travelers Insurance Co., for property damage to three homes in Gloucester and Camden counties purportedly caused by hailstorms. The company also had an office in Evesham, investigators said.

An investigation determined that representatives from Precision Builders canvassed neighborhoods, claimed that homes had been damaged in a hailstorm, and advised homeowners that they could get new siding and roofing at no cost. Several homeowners told investigators that they were unaware of any hail damage to their residences before being solicited by Precision Builders, authorities said.

After homeowners filed claims with their insurance carriers, Gradziel would visit and damage the properties prior to adjusters’ inspections, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

On March 26, 2012, Gradziel’s co-defendant, Dominik Sadowski, 37, of Sellersville, Pa., pleaded guilty to third-degree insurance fraud. Sadowski was sentenced to four years of probation and 100 hours of community service. In addition, Precision Network Solutions pleaded guilty to second-degree insurance fraud. Precision Builders paid $68,720 in restitution before being sentenced. The company went out of business as a result of the investigation.

“Schemes such as this one defraud not only the victim but also drive up the cost of insurance premiums for the rest of us,” acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Ronald Chillemi said. “As illustrated by this guilty plea, such conduct will not be tolerated in New Jersey.”
