Identity Theft Mesa, AZ Man Arrested

Mesa police arrested a man on Saturday, Aug. 28 on suspicion of identity theft and forgery after he attempted to cash three checks that officers suspect that he had bought from a friend in Phoenix and were forged.

Brandon Frazier, 28, deposited the checks into two TCF banks in Mesa and one in Chandler on Aug. 26. He had planned to split the money with another person, according to court documents. A hold was placed on the checks, but not before $50 was withdrawn, the document states.

Two of the checks were from business accounts that no longer are active and one from an active personal account, according to the document. Frazier had not been given permission to use the checks, police say.

Frazier was seen in video surveillance driving to each bank in a U-Haul truck he had rented on Aug. 23 using an Arizona driver’s license. When he was arrested, Frazier had multiple Social Security cards, passports, blank checks and driver’s licenses inside the U-Haul. Officers report he admitted that he paid $25 for each identification card, and that he did not know any of those whose names were on the cards.

Frazier served prison time in Indiana on fraud and forgery convictions, and is on probation in Arizona, according to law-enforcement authorities.
