Missing Person Body Found in DeSoto Feared to be Olathe, KS Man

A body discovered Tuesday afternoon in De Soto had clothing that matched the description of a man who has been missing since Oct. 20, according to a friend of the man’s family.

Henry Cox, a lawyer who is speaking for the family of 22-year-old Brad Cook, said Johnson County sheriff’s deputies contacted the family Tuesday after the body was discovered to confirm the clothing Cook was last seen wearing.

“The description (of the body) fit what we last knew Bradley was wearing,” Cox said.

Cox said the deputies would not reveal any information about the cause of death or whether there were any signs of violence. They also did not confirm the body was male, he said. The family was told that more definitive information must await a medical examination planned for Wednesday.

The sheriff’s department said the body was discovered about 3:30 p.m. in the 9500 block of Sunflower Road.

Cox said that the area had been searched by law enforcement officers and civilian volunteers but that the search grid stopped at the north side of 95th Street. The body was found on private property on the south side of 95th Street, near Lexington Avenue. A person walking in the area saw the body and called authorities.

Cook left the home in Olathe he shared with his sister about 10:10 p.m. Oct. 20 without his cellphone or wallet. His motorcycle was found a couple of hours later left unlocked in a strip mall’s parking lot in De Soto, a few blocks from where the body was found Tuesday.

Family members said Cook’s disappearance was out of character for him.
