The coroner has release the name of a 12-year-old girl hit and killed by a car in Lexington Wednesday.
The vehicle hit Payton Griffith on Auburn Drive at Eastland Parkway around 4:15 p.m. Police say the driver of the car was turning left onto Auburn Drive. She told officers the sun was in her eyes, and she didn’t see the child.

Griffith was a student at Bryan Station Middle School. Fayette County Schools released a statement saying, “Our entire school system is grieving with the families involved in this tragic accident.”
