A Louisville man accused of beating and killing an employee who caught him in the middle of a burglary entered a not guilty plea in court Wednesday.
33-year-old Raymon Murrell pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, burglary and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Phillip Schulz.
Police say Murrell was caught inside Packaging Unlimited – a packaging, shipping containers and packing supplies store – in Louisville last Friday by an employee, 63-year-old Philip Schulz, who had just walked into work.

Murrell was breaking into vending machines at the facility when he saw Schulz and hit the employee in the head with a hard object. Schulz was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Saturday just before 9 p.m., of head and neck injuries sustained in the assault, according to the coroner.
Murrell was arrested Tuesday afternoon and arraigned Wednesday morning.
Murrell’s family said he worked at Packaging Unlimited. Murrell told the judge his last day at the company was Thursday and that he had since been fired.
His bond is set at $250,000. He will be back in court April 25.
