Drug Dog Sweep Nets More Than A Pound of Meth in Oklahoma City

More than a pound of methamphetamine with a street value of about $30,000 was discovered by a deputy and a drug dog during a traffic stop this week in Oklahoma City.

About 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, an Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle that failed to signal while changing lanes at NW 63 and N May Avenue. With permission from a passenger who owned the vehicle, the deputy used a drug dog named Axo to perform an open-air sniff, sheriff’s spokesman Mark Myers said.

Axo, a veteran dog in the K-9 unit, signaled there were illegal drugs in the car. A search uncovered 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine and more than $5,000 in cash, Myers said.

The deputy who made the arrest is a member of the Central Oklahoma Metro Interdiction Team, a multi-agency unit operating under an agreement between the Oklahoma County district attorney’s office, the Oklahoma City Police Department and the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the vehicle, Eugene Robert Snyder, 51, and a passenger, Kira Leigh Snyder, 32, were jailed on complaints of trafficking illegal drugs and possession of drug proceeds. Each was being held Thursday in the Oklahoma County jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
