Fraud Investigation Jury Duty Scam in Jessamine County

A Jessamine County woman said she was the target of a recent scam.

She said someone posing as an officer called her Thursday night stating that she failed to report for jury duty and unless she paid a fine she would be arrested.

“They gave very specific information, times, dates, names badge numbers, the judge’s signature on the warrant,” Dora Johnson said.

Very convincing information but Johnson said she never received a summons for jury duty and said she couldn’t pay the fine.

“I kind of thought I’m going to jail for something I didn’t do,” she said. “I asked him what would happen if you came to arrest me and my daughter was here by herself and he said she’d go to foster care.”

She made some calls to see if this was all true including one to Jessamine County Circuit Clerk Doug Fain.

“The day she spoke of first was not a trial and secondly she’s not on the panel, so I knew it was a scam the second I heard about it,” Fain said.

Fain said you will get a summons in the mail for jury duty and not a call.

His advice is to not give out personal information or money and contact local law enforcement if you get the scam artist’s number.
