Wrongful Death Waterloo, IA Police Searching For Two Connected to Homicide Investigation

A missing person case in Waterloo has become a homicide investigation and two people are wanted for questioning.

According to a release from the Waterloo Police Department, investigators want to speak with 43-year-old Anthony Tronca and 29-year-old Jessica Ogden. Public Safety Director Daniel Trelka said both Tronca and Ogden are friends with 44-year-old Ronald Randall.

“We want to speak to them about what they might know,” said Lt. Michael McNamee with the Waterloo Police Department.

The police department received a missing-person report for Randall around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 9. Police said as part of their investigation, they searched a wooded area south of Waterloo and off Highway 218. There, they found a body believed to be Randall, police said. An official identification has not been made, but police said an autopsy performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be homicide.

Trelka said, based on initial information, investigators knew it was more than a typical missing person case. “From the very beginning, when we first got a report, there were suspicious circumstances to it. The victim had a routine and he no longer engaged in it. It was like he walked off the face of the Earth,” Trelka said.

Tronca is the owner of AJT Auto Repair, 2014 Black Hawk Street, which police searched on Monday. One neighboring business owner says authorities have continued to watch the property. That business owner, Loren Levell, said he first noticed police activity in the middle of last week. “We were seeing unmarked cars with police sitting there and raising binoculars up to watch [AJT Auto Repair] to see what was going on,” Levell said.

Aside from saying Randall, Tronca and Ogden are friends, police have not elaborated on their relationship. However, several sources identified Jessica Ogden as Daniel Trelka’s girlfriend.

Police said Tronca and Ogden’s whereabouts is currently unknown and there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Tronca, who is wanted on outstanding warrants. He is also listed on the Most Wanted page operated by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-4340 or Crime Stoppers at 855-300-8477.
