Fraud Investigation Two Charlotte, NC Doctors Charged In Prescription Fraud Investigation

Two Charlotte doctors have been charged following a prescription fraud investigation.

Dr. Benjamin Hobbs, 37, and Dr. Samuel Hobbs, 40, of Clear View Eye Care were involved in the scheme, according to police.

CMPD began investigating after alleged victims notified police. Detectives say the doctors wrote prescriptions for Hydrocodone and requested the patients return to the practice with the medication. They would then allegedly remove a portion or all of the pills from the bottles.

Search warrants were executed at the office on Tuesday. Based on records, investigators say both doctors have prescribed a large amount of Hydrocodone.

CMPD’s Pharmaceutical Diversion Unit, along with agents from the SBI and the DEA, arrested Dr. Benjamin Hobbs and Dr. Samuel Hobbs. They were each charged with trafficking in opiates, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and larceny.

Police believe there are more victims to identify. Anyone with more information on these cases or the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
