Pedophile Tracking High School Volleyball Coach Facing Charges

A 53-year-old high school volleyball coach is facing multiple charges after authorities say he tried to arrange a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl.

Charles Goubert was arraigned Thursday in Clinton Township’s 41-B District Court on three counts of child sexually abusive activity, a 20-year felony, and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime, a 15-year-felony.  He was given a $100,000 bond and is due back in court on Oct. 27.

Goubert, the assistant volleyball coach at Yale High School, was arrested Wednesday after a lengthy investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Computer Crimes Unit.

According to investigations, Goubert had posted an ad on a social media website indicating he was looking to meet a 13-year-old girl for the purpose of performing sexual acts on her. Pretending to be a young girl, undercover detectives initiated contact with Goubet via e-mail and text messages.

Detectives arranged to meet Goubert at a predetermined time and location. When he showed up, Goubert was immediately arrested and brought to the Macomb County Jail.

“The Sheriff’s Office will be vigorous in their investigation and apprehension of individuals who are attempting to prey on children,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a statement.

Yale Public Schools immediately placed Goubert on administrative leave upon learning of his arrest. A spokesperson said Goubert did not teach at the school, but had been on the volleyball coaching staff for the past decade.

Superintendent Kenneth Nicholl has reportedly contacted the parents of students on the volleyball teams. A private meeting with players, parents, counselors and administrators is set for Friday.
