Drug Dog Sweep $26k Worth of Drugs Found in Canadian County, OK

One woman is behind bars after a canine detected $26,000 worth of drugs in her vehicle.

Canadian County officials say 34-year-old Latoya Wright of Greensboro, North Carolina was pulled over Sunday morning after making an unsafe lane change, moving left to right, cutting off a semi-tractor trailer.

Authorities say she was traveling from Phoenix to Greensboro.

According to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies became suspicious of Wright, they brought “Pickles” the canine to the scene.

After conducting a free-air sniff, the dog alerted officials to the presence of narcotics in the truck of the vehicle.

Deputies say they located 26 pounds of marijuana, worth approximately $26,000.

Authorities say the drugs had been swabbed with axle grease and baking soda in an attempt to mask the odor.

“My deputies did a great job recognizing that something other than just a traffic stop might be occurring, and took the contact to the next level.  A drug detector dog was called to the scene, and a positive alert lead to the recovery of the drugs, and Wright’s arrest,” said Randall Edwards from the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office. “The drugs we took in this case don’t appear to be the higher grade of marijuana known as “Hydro,” but of a lesser grade associated with that originating out of Mexico and sold in the United States by the Mexican Cartels.”

Wright was booked into the Canadian County Jail on charges of Trafficking Marijuana and Possession of Drug Proceeds.

Her bond was set at $105,000.
