Wrongful Death Trial Date Set For Men Accused in Murder of Alex Johnson

A trial date has been set for two men accused in the death of Alex Johnson, a Lexington man whose body was found in a barrel in the Kentucky River weeks after he went missing from his home in December of last year.

Timothy Curtis Ballard and Robert Marcum Taylor stood before a judge Friday and learned their trial date was set for Oct. 5 through Nov. 12.

Another status hearing will also be scheduled for both men on Jan. 30, 2014.

Taylor is accused of beating Alex Johnson to death inside of a car the night he vanished and Ballard is accused of disposing of Johnson’s body while Taylor cleaned up the crime scene.

Taylor’s attorney, Sandra Downs, says they need time to prepare for the case since the prosecution is pushing for the death penalty for her client, who charged with murder and kidnapping.

Ballard is charged with kidnapping and evidence tampering.

Downs couldn’t comment much on the case, but says it “will be interesting.”
