A Virginia man was sentenced Friday in Jefferson County Court to four years in state prison for having repeated sexual contact with two children in the city in the late 1990s.
Richard P. Gibson Sr., 49, Newport News, Va., was also ordered to undergo six years of additional supervision and to register with the state as a sex offender upon his release from prison after pleading guilty Sept. 26 to two counts of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child.

It had been alleged in a grand jury indictment handed up in April that he had repeated sexual contact with two children, a boy and a girl both under the age of 6, in 1997 and 1998. He was arrested by Virginia State Police in March and extradited to the area.
