Drug Dog Sweep Sacramento Man Indicted After Drug Detection Dog Sniffs Out Meth

A traffic stop and a dog with a sensitive nose led to the indictment of a Sacramento man on drug charges.

A federal grand jury in Fresno on Thursday returned a one-count indictment against Wenceslao Cruz Ochoa, 34, charging him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release.

Court documents indicate that Ochoa was stopped Nov. 13 by a Fresno County sheriff’s deputy for a moving violation on Interstate 5. A dog trained in the detection of controlled substances alerted the deputy to the presence of drugs, which prompted a search of the vehicle. Approximately 19 pounds of methamphetamine was located inside a suitcase, authorities said.
