Pedophile Tracking Amarillo Man Sentenced to 120 Years

An Amarillo man received two life sentences and a combined 120 year prison term after being convicted on child sex and pornography charges, police said Friday.

Paul John Martinez was sentenced in 251st District Court on ten counts of possession of child pornography, one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact, and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, police said.

Martinez received the maximum sentence possible for each of the 13 charges, police said. He was sentenced to 10 years on each charge of possession of child pornography, 20 on the indecency charge, and one life sentence for each count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

On Oct. 22, 2013, Randall County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Martinez on the 10 counts of child pornography after Amarillo police executed a search warrant in his house, police said.

That arrest stemmed from an Oct. 5, 2013 incident in which officers responded to a call at a south Amarillo apartment complex, police said. A young woman told police she thought a child relative had entered Martinez’s apartment and engaged in sexual contact with him, authorities said.

At the apartment complex, witnesses told police they suspected Martinez had used a computer to show pornographic images to children, authorities said. Martinez returned to the apartment complex that evening and police detained him, seizing a laptop and flash drive, police said.

Investigators interviewed Martinez. The investigation did not yield enough evidence for an arrest, but police got enough information to secure a search warrant for his apartment, police said. Authorities searched the apartment in the early morning of Oct. 6, 2013, and seized three computers and numerous CDs, police said.

Investigators found evidence of child pornography, and on Oct. 18, 2013, the Randall County District Attorney’s office accepted a criminal complaint against Martinez, police said.
