Fraud Investigation Gulfport Man Accused of Making $7,300 Worth of Fraudulent Charges

Police arrested a Gulfport man on the charge of credit card fraud after a four-month investigation found more than $7,000 of fraudulent charges.

Willie Ed Smith Jr., 32, was arrested Tuesday when he turned himself in at the Gulfport Police Department.

Sgt. Damon McDaniel said the investigation started Nov. 3 when the victim issued a complaint of unknown charges.

“During the investigation, we learned Smith used the victim’s credit card to make purchases of $7,300 without permission,” McDaniel said.

Smith was taken to the Harrison County jail to be held in lieu of a $25,000 bond set by Judge Brandon Ladner.
