Fraud Investigation Imposter Boone County Sheriff Attempting Money Scam

The Boone County Sheriff’s office is warning residents of a new scam.

Authorities have been receiving complaints of a man identifying himself as a Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Marshall or Lieutenant and has called approximately six people advising them they have an active arrest warrant. The suspect goes on to say that they can rectify the situation by going to Kroger and purchasing two $500 debit cards. Once the card is activated the victim is told to call him back and read him the identifying number on the back of the card.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and its personnel have never conducted business like this and is warning residents of the scam. Authorities are not aware of anyone who actually went through with the purchase of the debit card but the sheriff’s office is asking anyone who is contacted by this man to report it immediately. So far the suspect has used the same telephone number (859) 206-1812.

Anyone who can provide information as to the identity of the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040 or the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at (859) 334-2175.
