Accident Reconstruction 6 Killed in Crash in Wayne County

The Wayne County coroner has identified the 6 people killed in a crash Friday night in Monticello. It happened just before 6 p.m. on Kentucky 90.

The clean-up and crash reconstruction on Highway 90 lasted into Saturday morning, and blocked traffic in both directions. The tragic accident is something neighbors who live near the scene won’t forget.

“At first, they thought the van was a Mustang because the top was completely gone, but they realized that it was a mini van. That’s the one that all the folks passed away in,” said resident Ann Hickman.

State police say the family of 6 was leaving Monticello on Highway 90, when their sedan crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck driving the opposite direction.

The coroner pronounced a Monticello woman, her two children and her three grandchildren dead at the scene. They are identified as 41-year-old Tena Proctor, 25-year-old Sarah Elizabeth “Audrey” Ellis, 12-year-old Nathan Proctor, four-year-old Christian “Red” Barnhouse, two-year-old Zoe Bertram, and one-year-old Jace Bertram.

“It’s something that’s never happened around here for quite some time, and it has a very major impact, because this is a small community. Most people know most people, and it’s very devastating,” said Hickman.

State police say the two men in the pickup truck were taken to the hospital with injuries. Troopers are still investigating what may have caused the sedan to cross the center line and hit the pickup.

A friend of the family has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the funeral.
