U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have seized $683,000 in heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine at Arizona ports from multiple smuggling attempts in the past week, according to the agency.
Officers the Dennis DeConcini crossing in Nogales arrested a 26-year-old woman Sunday after they found nearly six pounds of heroin, worth more than $79,000, hidden in a suitcase in her Chevrolet sedan, authorities said.

On Tuesday, officers at the Port of San Luis arrested 19-year-old Elidia Margarita Espero-Obeso from Victorville, Calif., after a drug dog led officers to nearly 40 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $432,000, stashed in a false-floor compartment of her Mitsubishi SUV, the CBP release said.
At the Port of Nogales on Wednesday, officers arrested Francisco Arturo Hernandez-Millanes, 45, from Hermosillo, Son., after a drug dog detected the presence of drugs in the rear bumper of the Ford Mustang he was driving, CBP said.
Officers pulled apart the rear bumper and found a compartment that contained 43 pounds of methamphetamine, worth more than $128,000, and three pounds of heroin worth about $44,000, the release said.
CBP seized the drugs and vehicles, and handed over each suspect to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
