Pedophile Tracking Kansas City Man Gets 10 Years

A Kansas City man who prosecutors said intended to rape a 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Christopher D. Craig, 36, had been found guilty in December of attempted enticement of a child and attempted first-degree statutory rape. The two 10-year sentences, imposed Thursday, are to run concurrently.

Craig remains free on a $100,000 cash bond, pending appeal.

According to Platte County prosecutors, Craig had conducted several online conversations with a person he thought was the mother of a 13-year-old girl. That person, in fact, was a Platte County sheriff’s deputy.

Craig, according to prosecutors, had planned to rendezvous with the 13-year-old at a Platte County hotel and had emailed the deputy “a 15-point plan detailing the ways he would rape, sodomize and abuse the child.” The plan, prosecutors said, “graphically described various sex acts that Craig intended to inflict upon the child, including sadomasochistic abuse.”

Platte County sheriff’s deputies arrested Craig when he checked into a Platte County hotel on July 22, 2013. Craig carried with him several items that he had intended to use during his rendezvous with the child, according to prosecutors.

“Thank goodness this case did not involve an actual child, but the defendant made it very clear he would have completed the acts if given the opportunity,” said Eric Zahnd, Platte County prosecuting attorney.

“In all my years as a prosecutor, I have seen very few cases where a defendant’s plan to sexually abuse a child was so deliberate, so detailed and so disgusting. I believe this man is dangerous, and the public should be aware as long as he remains at large.”
