Wrongful Death Pastor Accused in Shooting Competent To Stand Trial

A Boyle Co. judge has ruled that pastor Kenneth Allen Keith is competent to stand trial in the shooting deaths of three people.

On September 20, 2013, Danville Police say Kenneth Allen Keith walked into ABC Gold, Games And More in Danville and shot the owners, Mike and Angela Hockensmith, as well as their client, Daniel Smith. The crime occurred while the Hockensmiths’ two children hid inside.

In an interview with LEX 18, Keith said that he is competent to stand trial and that he is innocent of the charges.

In a Boyle County courtroom on July 27, a judge agreed with Keith.

According to an affidavit, Keith told an acquaintance he believed there was a hit on Smith and that the Hockensmiths happened to be there at the time. It  goes on to say that Keith told the acquaintance that the Hockensmiths weren’t innocent and had cost him a lot of money.

The families of the Hockensmiths and Smith did not make comment on the hearing which occurred behind closed doors. The trial date has not yet been set but another hearing will be held September 1.

The Commonwealth’s attorney states that this is still a death penalty case.
