Wrongful Death Man Accused in Jessamine County Murder Pleads Not Guilty

A Jessamine County man suspected of murder appeared in court following a brutal attack on Friday.

Deputies made a quick arrest in the death of a man found on a home’s porch. However, Thomas Carson claims he is innocent in the death of Shane Washington. The body of Washington was found on Carson’s porch.

The mother of  Carson immediately talked with LEX 18  following his arraignment this morning. She told reporter Evan Gorman that she’s proud of her son for finally standing up for himself.

“I would have done the same thing, I’m sorry to say but I would, I can’t help it,” said Rose Boular.

Carson appeared in Jessamine County district court through video conference. He pleaded not guilty and will be appointed a public defender.

His mother tells me her son was picked on often, occasionally beaten and believes he acted in self defense. She’s hoping surveillance footage will show her son is innocent.

“I didn’t hit the man,” the bruised and bloody suspect, Thomas Carson told LEX 18’s Josh Breslow while in the Jessamine County Detention Center. “I did not kill that guy. He kicked my fence down and he came through my house and broke in my house and hit me in the head with a brick.”

Carson said, after that alleged attack, he pushed Washington out onto his porch, three times, and he said it’s possible the victim hit his head and died. Washington’s daughter said she does not believe that.
