Wrongful Death Man Convicted in 1986 Murder Denied Parole

The man convicted in a murder in the 1980s was denied parole Wednesday.

Eric Hayden was one of two men convicted of the 1986 robbery and murder of 36-year-old Clay Nelson. Hayden and Clarence Jones robbed the Columbia Steakhouse on Alexandria Drive. They stabbed Nelson 51 times before setting the restaurant on fire.

Hayden appeared before a parole board Wednesday morning to ask for his freedom. The request was denied.

Hayden is not eligible for parole again for another five years.
