The victim of a Thursday night shooting has died at UK Hospital.

Police say that the 25-year-old victim, De’ontai Bates,  was shot in the chest on Faulkner Avenue.

“The witness is the victim’s mother’s boyfriend, who was also with him in the vehicle when the shooting occurred,” said Lt. Jackie Newsman. “We have no idea why they were out here. They don’t live in this area. It is kind of a rural area so it’s definitely kind of an odd place.”

Investigators are looking for the person of interest. They describe him as a black male in his 20s with a red toboggan on and dark colored clothing. He may be armed.

They say it is not clear what led up to the shooting.
