Missing Person Body Recovered From Madison Co. Creek ID’d As Missing Man

The Madison County Coroner tells LEX 18 that a body recovered from a Madison County creek is that of a man at the center of a Golden Alert.

Investigators say a man made the shocking discovery late Saturday afternoon along Duck Branch Road in Madison County.

“There’s no way to physically… to even drive to where this vehicle is located, ” said Trooper Robert Purdy of Kentucky State Police.

What the man found was a dark gray Toyota car in a creek, with man dead inside. At the time the discovery was made, county officials said water levels were high, making the recovery mission risky. As night fell the decision was made to hold off on the recovery efforts. Law enforcement parked nearby overnight to preserve the scene.

“We couldn’t have done it. Got lights down there and we were going to put people in harm’s way, or that how I felt, that was my decision, ” said Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

Around 9:15 Sunday morning the man’s body was finally recovered. On Monday, the Madison County coroner said the person is 78-year-old Fred Warner. Warner was last seen in Richmond on December 18th.

“We assume, because of what family has told us, what the missing person was driving, ” the coroner explained.

Meanwhile, many questions remain including where the car actually went into the water, and if the man had any injuries or died of natural causes.

“He obviously has been there for a while, and nature takes its course, ” the coroner said.

Missing since December, KSP has not confirmed if this investigation in related to his disappearance
