Wrongful Death Family Still Searching for Justice After Her Mother’s Murder

The last six months have been agonizing for one Lexington family still searching for their mother’s killer.

Stephanie Mullins was found dead of a gunshot wound behind an apartment complex in August. Just hours before Mullins died, she was on the phone with her daughter, Leeanna Conway.

Conway says didn’t sense any concern or fear in her voice that night, and still replays that conversation in her head.

“Just the not knowing is the worst part of it,” said Conway.

For the five children and seven grandchildren of Stephanie Mullins, life changed the morning of August 7.

That’s when police found Stephanie’s body behind apartments on Cross Keys Drive.

“When you have the opportunity to call someone when you want, and then you can’t. It’s just a constant reminder that they’re not there, and they’re not gonna be there again,” said Conway.

That’s the emotional reality for Conway since that day. She chose to be interviewed, but with her back to the camera because more than six months later, she still tears up when talking about her mom.

“My youngest son is one and a half, and (I’m) watching everything that he learns daily, and I can’t share that with her,” said Conway.

But she does want her mother’s face to be seen and remembered in hopes that someone will contact police with information that can give the family justice.

“I hope that it’s weighing on somebody’s conscience…seeing that she has a family and people that love her, and still do,” said Conway.

Police say the death of Stephanie Mullins is a homicide investigation, but they don’t have any updates at this point.
