Missing Person Stanley Wells’ Wife Still Hoping to Find Him

Searchers in Morgan County are still looking for a body at the bottom of the Licking River.

It’s been three weeks since 65 year-old Stanley Wells was last seen on his boat in the river, before it capsized.

On Tuesday, his grieving wife spoke with us for the first time.

“It hurts so bad. I can’t touch him and I can’t see him,” said Stanley’s wife, Fonda Wells.

On a cold day in February, Stanley Wells took his boat out on the river near his home to test out a new motor.

“My husband got on that boat, (and) he didn’t know he was not gonna come back to me,” said Fonda Wells.

A boy who was with Wells that night told Fish and Wildlife that the boat flipped, and the 65 year-old went into the water.

“It’s been a little over 3 weeks and they’re (searchers) still searching,” said Wells. “They’ve walked the riverbanks. They’ve had boats, they’ve had dogs, they’ve had helicopters. They’ve given it all that they have and I admire them and I thank God for them.”

Because of the strong current and poor visibility in the water, conditions  for rescue crews have been difficult.

Fonda Wells knows in her heart her husband of nearly 50 years is gone, but she wants to properly say goodbye.

“I want them to find his body. I want to know that he won’t be down there like that forever,” said Wells. “It hurts so bad and I miss him so much. I just want closure.”
