Identity Theft Suspect Arrested in Bernalillo County, NM

Deputies were waiting when a 28-year-old man who tried to take out a car loan in another person’s name arrived at an Albuquerque-area dealership to pick up the vehicle, according to court records.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternooninmate_imagen received a call from the identity theft victim, who said he was contacted by a loan agency that told him his car loan had been approved and that Access Auto would have the vehicle ready in a few hours, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

A deputy went to the dealership on Fourth NW, and had the owner call the suspected thief and tell him the vehicle was ready for pickup.

Deputies were watching when Victor Jaramillo, 28, arrived, gave a fake name and tried to complete the transaction, according to the complaint. His last name is also spelled Jarmamillo in court records.

Deputies tried to take Jaramillo into custody and they said he fought with them on two occasions. He pushed deputies, threw punches at them and kicked them. Two deputies were left with bruises to their legs, the complaint reads.

Jaramillo was charged with identity theft, battery upon a peace officer and escape from custody.

He remained in jail Saturday night, with his bail in this case set at $5,500. He’s also being held without bail because he has other pending criminal cases, according to jail records.
