Missing Person $10k Reward Offered for Missing Johnson County Couple

Five months after a Johnson County couple disappeared, their family is offering thousands of dollars to the person who helps find the two.

Larry and Sandy Blanton were last seen in September 2012.

“People don’t just disappear out of thin air. Something had to have happened,” Sandy’s sister, Lois Fraley told LEX 18 by phone on Friday.

“You don’t ever expect anything like this to happen to you. You hear about it on TV and on the news, but when it comes home to roost it’s a completely different thing,” Fraley said. “We’d like to think that ‘yes, they are alive’, but I’m not as confident of that, as I once was.”

The couple’s son, Willie Blanton was labeled a “person of interest” in the case. He is in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, accused of filling his parents’ prescriptions and forging their checks.

“I’ve been told they think I did something with them,” Willie Blanton told LEX 18 last year, while in tears.

Sandy Blanton’s family is now circulating a flyer, offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the couple and the arrest of whoever is responsible for their disappearance.

“People will do something sometimes because it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes they’ll do it because there’s money involved. I don’t care what their motivation is. We just want to find Sandy and Larry and put some end to this,” Fraley said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedophile Tracking Huntersville, NC Youth Paster Convicted

A former youth pastor at a Huntersville church was convicted of child sex crimes by a Mecklenburg County jury Thursday.

Thaddeus Stephen MacMoran, 27, was found guilty for a statutory sex offense against a person either 13, 14 or 15 years old, a crime against nature and four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

MacMoran was a student ministry volunteer with the Lake Forest Church teen ministry. But a spokesperson for Lake Forest Church said the crimes occurred at another church, before MacMoran became a volunteer at Lake Forest.

The jury convicted MacMoran after a three-day trial, and Superior Court Judge Forrest D. Bridges sentenced him to serve between 222 and 276 months in prison.

Upon his release from prison, MacMoran must register as a sex offender and enroll in satellite-based monitoring for the rest of his life.

US Soldiers No Longer Get Breakfast

A Sad Day indeed for US military troops
As originally reported on the congressional website of Republican Rep. Bruce Braley of Iowa (IA-01), the U.S. Army has stopped serving breakfast to American troops serving on 17 bases in Afghanistan. The measure, which will be extended further beginning this weekend, is one of the earliest stages in the U.S. military pull-out from Afghanistan.
On his website, Braley explained he learned about the military’s cutbacks from Iowa constituents whose family members are serving in Afghanistan.
The congressman sent a letter to Army Secretary John McHugh, in which he said,
“I am troubled that the Army would deny any deployed troops three meals per day, regardless of force size,” Braley wrote. “These men and women put their lives on the line every day to protect the very freedoms we cherish. The exhaustive mental and physical labor that is required by soldiers to fight in harsh and unforgiving conditions is tremendous. We shouldn’t deny our troops something as fundamental as a proper meal.

“I am positive that with the logistical mastery the Army has exhibited in combat operations around the world, you can logistically administer the procedure of serving breakfast every day.”
According to a report in the Washington Times, troops have been writing home asking families and friends to send them care packages of cereals and other breakfast foods.
The U.S. military apparently decided it is sufficient to supply the troops with pre-packaged breakfast “Meals Ready to Eat,” known as MREs. They are alsoreferred to as “Meals Rejected by Everyone,” and are considered by health experts to be “restricted rations” which should not be served for more than 21 days. MREs are supposed to be used for troops who are out in the field without access to cooking facilities.

Col. Joe Wawro, an infantry commander for the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat team said that in anticipation of the “draw down of operational forces serving in Afghanistan, my staff examined ways to reduce our footprint and se the conditions for the reduction of forces.” Cutting back on hot breakfast food for the troops, “would reduce their overall operations by 40 percent.”
After meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Washington on January 7, President Obama said the U.S. intends to withdraw most of the 66,000 troops currently serving in Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

Identity Theft Federal Officers Warning

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Federal prosecutors and law enforcement officials warned Alabama residents Thursday to be vigilant in watching for identity theft as tax-filing season begins.

U.S. Attorney George Beck in the Middle District of Alabama said at a news conference that nine people have been arrested in recent days and eight are to be sentenced Friday in identity-theft cases in the district. He says the cases involve millions of dollars.

He said one of the cases involved a state employee charged with conspiring with others to file false tax returns using stolen identities. Beck said the employee accessed state databases to steal identities.

Beck says tax season tends to bring out thieves looking for “easy money” from filing fraudulent returns or from fraudulently preparing someone’s returns.

Beck and the other officials warned that it is particularly important this time of year to safeguard sensitive information such as birthdates and social security numbers.

“They keep creating new ways to steal identities,” Beck said.

Veronica Hyman-Pillot, a special agent with the Internal Revenue Service, said the IRS’ top priority is preventing identity theft.

Beck and other officials suggested that taxpayers file returns early.

Identity Theft Augusta, GA Man Pleads Guilty

An Augusta man admitted Thursday he stole nearly $200,000 from the dead and their families, an elderly boss and people too ill or infirm to care for themselves, including disabled veterans.

Bryant K. Evans Webb, 44, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges of wire fraud, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Two criminal counts were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea, but Webb agreed to make full restitution to all of the victims in his latest round of thievery.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Richmond County Sheriff Investigator Michael Lanham, who worked with federal agents on Webb’s case, testified Thursday that he has known Webb for years. After Webb’s release from a state prison in 2007, Webb found work at Peebles Funeral Home. He started out doing menial chores but convinced the 92-year-old owner to let him run the home. That’s when he found prepaid funeral services and insurance policies.

The money was supposed to pay for all funeral expenses and any money left over would be given the deceased’s family. According to court documents, before Lanham arrested Webb in 2011, Webb stole more than $94,000.

The detective testified that after Webb was released on bond on the state charges, he got a job at Mother and Daughter Personal Care Home. Within a few months, Webb was running the home, Lanham said, and helping himself to the bank accounts of the residents.

Lanham learned about Webb’s activities at the home when one resident’s VA representative called him to report money had been taken from her client’s bank account, a disabled veteran. There were several other victims at the home and even the mother of another long-term resident whom Webb convinced to send money by saying her son owed $30,000 in back taxes.

Webb, who plead guilty to his involvement in both cases Thursday, has been in and out of prison for short periods since 1989. Before the latest charges, he had 15 felony convictions.

All federal prison sentences are served without parole. Although rarely does a criminal defendant in federal court face the maximum penalty, bank fraud is punishable by a sentence up to 30 years, and wire fraud is punishable up to 20 years. Aggravated identity theft has a mandatory two-year consecutive sentence.

A sentencing date has not been set, and until then, Webb is being held without bond.

“He chose his victims based on their apparent inability to discover he was robbing them blind,” U.S. Magistrate Judge W. Leon Barfield wrote in ordering Webb’s detention in November.

“He did so cold-heartedly, repeatedly and without any sense of empathy whatsoever for his victims.”

Missing Person Jason Lovell of Arcata, CA

ARCATA, CA- The search for missing Arcata man, Jason Lovell continues. Friends and family have been forming search parties across the North Coast, after he went missing late Friday night.

Jason Lovell works at the Humboldt State bookstore and was reported missing after he didn’t show up for work for two days.
Friends Sara Stanton and Yamilet Alas have been walking all around Arcata and Eureka posting flyers. Stanton added, “He is so unbelievably smart, and very funny. He is always talking; he is just a really great guy. This is not like him for sure… he usually calls in to say he is going to be late, or not come in.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Not only is Jason their close friend, but he was suppose to move in with them this past weekend. Alas added, “I know he likes to be alone and go to the beach and stuff but he would never just completely get up and leave without telling anyone.”

Jason was last seen right here in Arcata around 11:45pm. His car is still where he left it, untouched and locked. Alas said, “he is still receiving voicemails. Which makes us believe he is checking his voice mails, because it can only hold so many messages. But his phone is not on and hasn’t been on since Friday.”

Jason is said to be a happy person, always laughing and full of life. But friends tell us there is another side to him. Stanton added, “He has been depressed. And he can get very high and happy one minute and he will just kind of go from zero to sixty in a minute.”

Friends believe that this may be the reason why he has disappeared, but say they will not stop looking for him. And this is their message to him:

Stanton said, “Jason we love you. You need to know that and we are all hoping that you come home as soon as possible.”

Alas said, “I love you. I have your sierra GS bag and I’d like to give it to you. Just come home we miss you.

Law enforcement was not available to comment, but say they are still investigating the case.
If you have any information about Jason you are urged to call Arcata Police at 822-2424.

William McCants, 45, was sentenced Thursday by Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge James Evans on 28 second-degree felony counts of illegally using a minor in nudity oriented matter, 15 counts of fourth-degree felony pandering obscenity involving a minor and 57 counts of second-degree felony pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
