Missing Person CA Family Missing After Trip to Mexico

Three members of a Southern California family have been missing for nearly a month after taking a trip to Mexico, loved ones say.

Roberto Muñoz, his wife Cecilia, and their grandson Armando Salinas, had gone to Mexico to visit relatives over the holidays. But just as the three were beginning their trip home, family members lost contact with them.

Relative Delphina Layton said the family had reached out to the U.S. Embassy and the FBI, to no avail.

Cellphones belonging to the missing group appear to have been turned off, and border records show that they never crossed back into the United States, she said.

Layton expressed frustration with the pace of the investigation.

“I need returned calls,” she said. “Somebody get back to me and tell me that you’re doing something.”

A Palm Springs, Calif., television station reported that the family had been traveling through Chihuahua, Mexico, and passing through the rough border town of Ciudad Juarez. U.S. relatives were reported to be living in the Coachella Valley, northeast of San Diego.

Wrongful Death Family Seeking Answers in Christmas Day Shooting

It’s been one month and one day since a Louisville man was killed. His loved ones are still searching for closure. 20-year-old Charles Fambrough was shot and killed Christmas morning. Those who knew him gathered at the same spot he was murdered, to plea for answers.

Charles Fambrough’s body was found on Portland Avenue in Louisville in the wee hours of Christmas morning, just a few hours after his friend, Dante Newsome, was murdered on a front porch not far away.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Someone has been arrested in Newsome’s case, now Fambrough’s family is praying for the same results.

“I can’t tell my son that his dad was murdered. It’s not right,” says Megan Brown, the victim’s girlfriend. She says she can’t imagine how she’ll one day tell her 15-month-old son William that his dad was gunned down.

Last month has been rough for the family. William can’t sleep unless he has his father’s picture in his hand. “They took life from all of us, the people that did this murdered the whole family,” says Brown.

Community activist, Christopher 2-X organized a gathering, attended by family, desperately searching for answers.

“Somebody, if anybody knows anything, please contact us, please,” pleads the victim’s mother, Barbara Fambrough.

Charles Fambrough was riding his bike when he was killed.

“Don’t let me sit around here not knowing nothing. I want to know why, I want to know who done it. I just miss my boy,” says his mother.

His family believes he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, a victim of mistaken identity.

“None of us are going to be the same, none of the family. None of us see brighter days, I want to know who did this,” says Fambrough.

If you have any information, call police.

Identity Theft Tips for this Year’s Tax Season

The Internal Revenue Service is taking additional steps during the 2013 tax season to protect taxpayers and help victims of identity theft and refund fraud.

Stopping refund fraud related to identity theft is a top priority for the tax agency. The IRS is focused on preventing, detecting and resolving identity theft cases as soon as possible. The IRS has more than 3,000 employees working on identity theft cases – more than twice the level of a year ago. We have trained more than 35,000 employees who work with taxpayers to recognize and provide assistance when identity theft occurs.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Taxpayers can encounter identity theft involving their tax returns in several ways. One instance is where identity thieves try filing fraudulent refund claims using another person’s identifying information, which has been stolen. Innocent taxpayers are victimized because their refunds are delayed.

Here are some tips to protect you from becoming a victim, and steps to take if you think someone may have filed a tax return using your name:

Tips to protect you from becoming a victim of identity theft

Don’t carry your Social Security card or any documents with your SSN or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) on it.
Don’t give a business your SSN or ITIN just because they ask. Give it only when required.
Protect your financial information.
Check your credit report every 12 months.
Secure personal information in your home.
Protect your personal computers by using firewalls, anti-spam/virus software, update security patches and change passwords for Internet accounts.
Don’t give personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet unless you have initiated the contact or you are sure you know who you are dealing with.

If your tax records are not currently affected by identity theft, but you believe you may be at risk due to a lost or stolen purse or wallet, questionable credit card activity or credit report, contact the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 800-908-4490, extension 245 (Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. local time; Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time).

If you believe you’re a victim of identity theft

Be alert to possible identity theft if you receive a notice from the IRS or learn from your tax professional that:

More than one tax return for you was filed;
You have a balance due, refund offset or have had collection actions taken against you for a year you did not file a tax return;
IRS records indicate you received more wages than you actually earned or
Your state or federal benefits were reduced or cancelled because the agency received information reporting an income change.

If you receive a notice from IRS and you suspect your identity has been used fraudulently, respond immediately by calling the number on the notice.

If you did not receive a notice but believe you’ve been the victim of identity theft, contact the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 800-908-4490, extension 245 right away so we can take steps to secure your tax account and match your SSN or ITIN.

Also, fill out the IRS Identity Theft Affidavit, Form 14039. Please write legibly and follow the directions on the back of the form that relate to your specific circumstances.

In addition, we recommend you take additional steps with agencies outside the IRS:

Report incidents of identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission at www.consumer.ftc.gov or the FTC Identity Theft hotline at 877-438-4338 or TTY 866-653-4261.
File a report with the local police.
Contact the fraud departments of the three major credit bureaus:
Equifax – www.equifax.com, 800-525-6285
Experian – www.experian.com, 888-397-3742
TransUnion – www.transunion.com, 800-680-7289
Close any accounts that have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.

Help if you have reported an identity theft case to the IRS and are waiting for your federal tax refund

The IRS is working to speed up and further streamline identity theft case resolution to help innocent taxpayers.

The IRS more than doubled the level of employees dedicated to working identity theft cases between 2011 and 2012. As the IRS enters the 2013 filing season, we now have more than 3,000 employees working identity theft issues. Despite these efforts, the IRS continues to see a growing number of identity theft cases.

These are extremely complex cases to resolve, frequently touching on multiple issues and multiple tax years. Cases of resolving identity can be complicated by the thieves themselves calling in. Due to the complexity of the situation, this is a time-consuming process. Taxpayers are likely to see their refunds delayed for an extended period of time while we take the necessary actions to resolve the matter. A typical case can take about 180 days to resolve, and the IRS is working to reduce that time period.

While the identity theft cases are being worked, the IRS also reminds victims that they need to continue to file their tax returns during this period.

For victims of identity theft who have previously been in contact with the IRS and have not achieved a resolution to their case, they can contact the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit, toll-free, at 800-908-4490. If victims can’t get their issue resolved and are experiencing financial difficulties, contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service toll-free at 877-777-4778.

More Information

It is a top priority for the IRS to help victims and reduce the time it takes to resolve their cases. In addition, the IRS continues to aggressively expand its efforts to protect and prevent refund fraud involving identity theft before it occurs as well as work with federal, state and local officials to pursue the perpetrators of this fraud.

For more information, see the special identity theft section on IRS.gov and IRS Fact Sheet 2013-2, IRS Combats Identity Theft and Refund Fraud on Many Fronts.

Missing Person Protest for Answers Regarding Missing Monument Teen

Rain and even some snow would not stop nearly two dozen people from standing outside Mark Redwine’s Vallecito home Saturday morning armed with signs.

Some with messages of hope for the boy’s return and others had a more direct message to the father asking where is Dylan?

Dylan Redwine, 13, who was at his father’s home in Vallecito on a court-ordered visit, was reported missing on November 19th.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

There have been massive searches of that area, including inside and around the Mark Redwine’s house Vallecito Lake and the nearby countryside.

So far, searches have not turned up any significant clues.

“We are getting fewer tips than we were earlier on in the case, but they’re still keeping our investigators busy,” La Plata County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Dan Bend said. “Just within the last week, we had been looking under bridges based on tips and psychic reports. I had investigators on snow shoes in the high country checking buildings.”

La Plata County sheriff’s officials say five different agencies are still working heavily on that case, but demonstrators say Mark Redwine is the one not doing enough.

According to the Durango Herald, Cory Redwine, the missing boy’s brother believes Mark has some answers about Dylan’s disappearance.

“I think he has a part in this. I’m not sure exactly to what extent,” Cory Redwine told the Herald.

The sheriff’s office would not comment on if they believe mark is hiding anything, but have not named him a suspect.

“We told them that it was certainly their right as citizens to have the rally as long as it was peaceful and didn’t violate any laws, didn’t trespass, didn’t impede on traffic,” Bend said.
The Durango Herald reports that Elaine Redwine, Dylan’s mother and Mark’s ex-wife, was among the demonstrators at Saturday’s event.

Missing Person Found in Group Home After Four Years

The sister of a man who has been in a group home for four years without an identity, appeared in court to face charges on Friday that she kept her brother’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks.

Maurice Williams, 46, was found wandering the streets of Detroit in 2008. Maurice was developmentally disabled and did not speak much. Authorities ran his fingerprints but could not find a matched, so Maurice was placed in a group home and became known as John D108 Doe, reports the Detroit Free Press.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Meanwhile, Janine Williams, Maurice’s sister was searching for her brother who was known to wander off. At first she wasn’t worried as the police always found him and brought him home according to the affidavit. Williams said she filed a missing-person report and called nursing homes looking for him.

Williams even thought he may have been kidnapped and that maybe someone would try to get her brother’s SSI payments. She contacted Social Security officials in 2008 about the SSI payments but was told to wait to see if he came back.

“After six months had passed, I began to believe that someone was keeping my brother against his will and thought that I could catch them if they ever tried to apply for monies for him,” Williams said in her affidavit, “Eventually, my reasoning led to the continuation of SSI payments being paid to me on behalf of my brother.”

Williams who is accused of stealing more than $1,000 in payments said that she used some of the money to pay bills, and knew it was wrong but didn’t expect Maurice to be gone so long.

Finally in October 2012, the Free Press ran a story on Maurice, after his care taker contacted them about Maurice. Kathleen White-Montgomery said she spent years looking over missing person websites trying to figure out who Maurice really was. When his family read the story that is when they realized where he had been all this time and came forward and identified themselves.

When Social Security officials found that Janine had received payments while her brother was missing they terminated her as he brother’s representative payee in October.

White-Montgomery is working toward transitioning Maurice back to his family, although she is apprehensive, reports USA Today on January 8. She said neither of Maurice’s sisters have called her since he was identified, even though her phone number appeared in the newspaper.

Maurice was at the court hearing for Janine and was seen hugging his cousin Olivia Williams.
