Pedophile Tracking Fransiscan Friar Accused Kills Self

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa – Police say a Franciscan friar accused of sexual abusing students at schools in two states killed himself at a western Pennsylvania monastery.

Blair Township police Chief Roger White tells the Associated Press an autopsy by the county coroner confirmed that 62-year-old Brother Stephen Baker died of self-inflicted wounds.

White said officers were called to St. Bernardine Monastery in Hollidaysburg on Saturday morning after another resident had found Baker not breathing.

Baker was named last week in legal settlements with 11 men who alleged he sexually abused them at a northeast Ohio school three decades ago. A Pennsylvania school said it has also received molestation allegations involving Baker.

Youngstown Bishop George Murray called for prayers for abuse victims, Baker’s family “and the repose of his soul.”

Identity Theft Florida Man Arrested Planned to File 100 False Returns

Sunrise, FL — An early morning traffic stop led to a man being busted in possession of personal information on more than 100 persons, some of whom were dead.

When police approached the suspect who was parked at a local condominium at about 4 a.m, he told the officer he had no identification on him. But a search of the vehicle reportedly revealed that he had a lot of IDs, according to the Florida Sun Sentinel:

” …the officer later found more than 100 names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, email addresses and PIN numbers stored in a laptop, in medical records and in a book found in the car …

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

[The suspect] told investigators that the information was obtained without the consent of the individuals and to ‘learn how to file fraudulent tax returns,’ police said.”

Officers also allegedly found a pistol and a joint in the car. He was booked on various charges including those related to identity theft and bonded out the next day.

According to the Identity Theft Info website, some 15 million US residents (estimated at 7 percent of adults) have their identity theft stolen each year to the tune of $50 billion in losses. In addition, even if there is no outright theft,

“Close to 100 million additional Americans have their personal identifying information placed at risk of identity theft each year when records maintained in government and corporate databases are lost or stolen. These alarming statistics demonstrate identity theft may be the most frequent, costly and pervasive crime in the United States.”

In this particular instance, this potential identity stealing involving false tax filings appears to have been discovered by accident fortunately those 100 persons concerned.

Pedophile Tracking Tumblr Leads Houston Police to Pedophile

Tumblr staff helped nab an alleged pedophile after he used his blog to brag about sexually abusing a young girl and to post graphic images of child abuse.

Houston police arrested Richard Benjamin, 37, on Jan. 7, charging him with three counts of possession of child pornography and child sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Benjamin apparently confessed shortly after the arrest, admitting that his social media brags were no fantasy, and that he’d abused the girl in question.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

He “claimed to be grooming her for more sexual abuse,” the Houston Chronicle reports.

Authorities found sexual images of the girl in his home and, perhaps more disturbingly, more child porn on his cellphone.

According to the Chronicle, Tumblr staff alerted the national National Center for Missing and Exploited Children when they saw unusual behavior on his account. They tied that account to Benjamin’s private email, which led police to his real identity.

He’s being held in Harris County jail for $200,000.

Missing Person Jennifer Kesse of Orlando Missing 7 Years

Seven years ago on Thursday, the lives of Drew Kesse and his family were forever changed by the sudden and unexplained disappearance of his daughter, Jennifer Kesse, who was 24 when she vanished in Orlando, Fla.

For seven painful years, there has been no joyous celebration of Jennifer Kesse’s birthday. No merriment at holiday get-togethers and no commemoration of her past or future accomplishments.

“It is the cruelest and most hurtful torture anyone could possibly do to another person. If we could get to hell, it would be an upgrade from where we are at right now,” a heartbroken Drew Kesse told The Huffington Post.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

There is, unfortunately, no benchmark for the amount of pain that families of the missing must endure. There is no crystal ball to consult that will provide comfort in the knowledge that it will eventually end. For the Kesses, the pain of not knowing may end tomorrow — or it could go on indefinitely. That, according to her father, is the worst part of all.

“Our lives will never be the same,” Kesse said. “This has taken a permanent toll on us physically and psychologically. There is not a part of our life that is not affected by it. I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s beyond heartbreak. I can actually feel pain, physical pain, in my heart. The stress, the anxiety, the pain on every level — I don’t wish it on anyone.”
The daily pain for the Kesses is rooted in the events of Jan. 24, 2006. On that day, the Kesses received a phone call from a co-worker of their daughter, who said Jennifer Kesse did not report for work at Central Florida Investments that morning and did not call in sick. Her co-workers said it was completely out of character.

“I called her phone at approximately 10:15 a.m. that day and it went directly to voicemail,” Kesse recalled. “She had had a cellphone since she was 14 or 15 and it never went directly to voicemail, so at that point I felt something was wrong.”

Kesse contacted Orlando police and the managers of his daughter’s apartment complex. The apartment management reported back that her car was not in her parking space, and she was not inside her apartment. Concerned, the Kesses made the two-hour drive from their home in Bradenton to Orlando.

“When we got to her condo, we used a spare key we had and opened the door,” Kesse said. “Nothing was really out of order inside. The shower had been used and the bathroom was a little sloppy with clothes and hair stuff. She had a few items of clothes on the bed, like she was deciding what outfit to wear that morning, but everything seemed fine inside the condo.”

By 4 p.m. that day, family and friends of Jennifer Kesse had launched a full-scale hunt. Searches were conducted of the area and fliers were made and distributed within the immediate area of her condominium, located next to the Mall at Millennia in Orlando.

A promising lead developed on Jan. 26, 2006, when Kesse’s car was found abandoned at a condominium complex roughly one mile from where she lived. Valuables were found inside the vehicle, leading police to believe Kesse was not the victim of a robbery or carjacking. Police bloodhounds tracked a scent from where the car was found to Kesse’s condo, but the trail ended there.

Police received another clue from surveillance footage from the condo complex where Kesse’s car was found.

On the video, an unknown person can be seen parking the car and waiting approximately 30 seconds before exiting the vehicle and walking away without looking back. Despite intense media coverage of the video, the gender and identity of the driver remain a mystery.

“We cannot find that person,” Drew Kesse told HuffPost. “We don’t have any answers and we are no closer than we were that day. We have had over 1,400 leads. None of them leading to a point where any law enforcement agency can tell us to this day right, left, up or down. She vanished from her door and they just don’t know.”

Prior to her disappearance, Jennifer Kesse had confided in friends that construction workers at her condominium made her feel uneasy. The building was new when she moved in, and only about half of the 447 units were occupied. Work was still being completed on the building and some of the workers were permitted to stay inside unoccupied units. No evidence has ever been found linking any of the workers to her disappearance.

“It is absolutely possible that a construction worker abducted her and Jennifer is in one of those buildings — buried in the ground and has not been found yet,” Kesse said. “They were building condos behind hers at the time and they were pouring concrete the day after she was taken.”

He added, “Anything could have happened to Jennifer and on our end that is the horror of it. When you have nothing to go on, everything is possible.”

For seven years, the search for Jennifer Kesse has continued without a major break.

“We don’t care what happened, why it happened, who did it or why,” Drew Kesse said. “We simply want Jennifer — the good or the bad. Is the possibility Jennifer is still alive good? No, it’s not. Is there hope for a miracle? Absolutely. We’ve seen it — Jaycee Dugard has come back. Elizabeth Smart has come back. People do come back, but they are very [few and far] between.”

Jennifer Kesse’s family members said they have spent their life savings on the search, but won’t give up.

“I’ve lost my life, but that doesn’t matter. It’s just a side effect of a heinous crime,” Drew Kesse said. “What does matter is it’s time for someone to speak up. There is still a $5,000 reward. Take it. It’s there. Go to a lawyer, be protected, but please — it’s been seven years. We just need a break for Jennifer, not for us, but for Jennifer. She needs to come home.”

At the time of her disappearance, Jennifer Kesse was 5 feet 8 and 135 pounds. She had shoulder-length sandy blonde hair and green eyes. Anyone with information or who would like to donate to search efforts may do so at Findjenniferkesse.com. Tipsters may also call the crime line anonymously at 800-423-8477.

Insurance Fraud McLennan County, TX Woman Arrested

A McLennan County woman was arrested for insurance fraud this week as part of a larger investigation into a suspicious November home fire.

Melissa Carol Adler was arrested on charges of insurance fraud and securing executive documents deceitfully after falsely reporting items damaged in a fire at her home on the 1100 block of Retreat Center Road near Axtell, sheriff’s deputies allege.

Sheriff’s Capt. M.R. “Bubba” Collier said Adler allegedly claimed $51,000 worth of items had been damaged at the home. But investigators said the fire debris did not contain evidence some of the items Adler reported as damaged, suggesting those things were not in the home at the time of the fire, Collier said.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Adler remained in the McLennan County Jail Friday after a judge declined to set bonds on two of her charges.

The sheriff’s office also arrested Michael Louden, 37, on a charge of criminal conspiracy to commit insurance fraud for his alleged role in the incident. Louden was released from the jail Thursday after posting a $3,000 bond.

The sheriff’s office began investigating the case in November after fire officials reported the cause of the fire was suspicious, Collier said. Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the initial blaze, but the flames later reignited, consuming the house.

Collier said the fire investigation is ongoing and no charges of arson have been filed in the case.

Drug Dog Sweep Joliet, IL Secrect Coke Stash Found

Had Luis Cruz not had the bad luck of being pulled over by a Joliet police K9 officer, it’s entirely possible his hidden stash of drugs concealed in a secret compartment of his SUV would have gone undetected, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Then again, had the 31-year-old Brookfield man had a license plate on the front of his silver Jeep Cherokee, the Joliet officer likely would not have pulled him over in the first place.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

Cruz was stopped at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near Theodore Street and Raynor Avenue, Roechner said. When the officer noticed Cruz’s passenger “looking back and ducking down a lot,” he asked Cruz if he could take a look inside, he said.

“You can check it out if you want,” was Cruz’s reply, Roechner said.

The officer’s dog quickly detected the hidden compartment, which contained six clear bags of cocaine, one clear bag of a dark-colored substance and a clear bag containing pills, he said.

Roechner declined to say where the secret compartment was located other than it was in interior front area of the vehicle. Such false niches are manufactured for the purpose of concealing guns and drugs, he said.

Cruz also presented the officer with an Illinois state ID card because his driver’s license had expired in 2007, Roechner said.

Cruz was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, false/secret compartment in vehicle and no driver’s license. His passenger was not arrested.

Cruz is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.

Identity Theft Cabbie in San Francisco gets Jail

An East Bay taxi driver who prosecutors say bought thousands of dollars of electronic devices from stores at San Francisco International Airport last year using fake credit cards was sentenced yesterday to two years in the county jail.

But under the realignment rules, Vipan Kumar Sharma, 38, will spend one year in jail with the second year under mandatory supervision. He has credit of 238 days accumulated while in custody on $500,000 bail, leaving him only a few months left to serve for felony counts of burglary, identity theft and credit card fraud.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Sharma, of Hayward, went to Brookstone and Inmotion stores every couple of weeks to buy on average $1,200 worth of electronic good using credit cards in his name. About six weeks after a card was declined at Inmotion, he returned to try again but was told by store personnel he could only use cash. The store employees pieced together a string of nine frauds over two months and contacted the Sheriff’s Office whose deputies arrested him Sept. 28, 2012 when he was recognized at Brookstone. He had 11 fake credit cards on him, each in his name but with the last four digits roughly scraped off and imprinted with new ones.

A probation search of his home revealed several more cards and dozens of electronic goods like a computer and video players still in boxes from Brookstone, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
